LED usage in Cargo Trailer

First, I apologize if this is a dumb question but I really know nothing about LED lights, connecting them and power draw. I have tried to read up before asking, but still do not have the answer to my question. Here goes:

I have a 14x7 cargo trailer that I want to install LED lights in for low power draw and simplicity. I was going to buy a 5 meter roll of lighting from ebay and a LED connector. The string I am looking at draws 2-3 amps and I am hoping to connect it directly to the small light that came stock in the trailer. First can I do this with out a problem? or do I need to add additional hardware to make sure it works? It will only be on when the trailer is connected to the vehicle and the vehicle is running.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The big problem with putting those strips in an automotive application is that the strips are not regulated well, and the voltage swings and spikes that you can see from a typical alternator will shorten the life of the LEDs substantially. I would suggest looking at actual automotive grade LED work lamps that will live through the abuse and alternator will give it. There are a number of options out there that are not very expensive, and will put out a good amount of light.
