LED useable or just recycle?

i dug this out of an old box in my closet, it's a primary copper mirror for a 4kW CO2 laser. it's liq cooled, solid CU, about 2.5" dia and has a gold plated mirror face. i was just wondering if any LED geeks would be interested in this as a heat sink or should i just recycle it?
if it can be used as a mirror in a 4kW laser i would assume that with chilled water running thru it, it could cool damn near any LED made to date ;)
all it would need is a gasket and connections. perhaps a scraping off of the gold to make a better soldering surface?
any advice?

this is the back of the 2 pcs, on left is mirror & screws, on right is the main body with the 3 mounting holes & 2 coolant connections.

the beautiful gold reflective surface. looks nice but to bad for a high power laser.

Needless to say, this mother is heavy as hell & is an industrial piece.

Likely best as a heat sink since the copper surface will be really lousy in the 450nM region. In other words the mirror will absorb instead of reflect a good portion of the output of a down converting LED. It would be a great mirror for a pure 650nM or higher though. Any idea what kind of copper? Depending on the Beryllium content it can be a bugger to tap. I agree with CKOD though that a Phlatlight would a perfect application. Nice.

i wasen't thinking of anyone useing it as a mirror, especaly since it's designed for 10,500nm IR. i just figured someone may think it'd make a handy heatsink since it's all copper and is liquid cooled.... that and its capable of dissipating the heat power from a 4kw laser reflection (which is no small feat). i took a look at the measurements and i believe 2 to 4 of the CSM-360's COULD fit with a lil manipulation. 68mm Dia.
 
So just for curiosity sake, what were you doing with a 10.5KnM 4KW laser?

Four CSM-360's would be about 4 x 2,250lm for 9000lm. Might also be able to cram a 4 x 4 array of SST-90's on there for 16 x 1600lm for 25,600lm. Need to move a lot of heat though.

Those would be perfect to mount a thermoelectric on. Just for reference, a water-cooled copper heatsink I made for my thermoelectrics dissipates upwards of 200 watts with only a few degrees C temperature rise. You could easily mount 500 watts of LEDs on that heat sink if they fit, and still have low junction temperatures.

LOL, it's part of my plan for world domination!:devil: J/K, i've been working in the laser field for over a decade now, this mirror came out of a ByStronic laser processor, a CNC machine used to cut metal.... among other things.

You could easily mount 500 watts of LEDs on that heat sink if they fit, and still have low junction temperatures.

thats what i was thinking, this thing:thinking:, with chilled water or other coolant (LN2?), could dissipate ALOT of heat from a tiny area. i would think 500-1000w of LED IF they can/would fit, should anyone wanna try such an insane idea.....:anyone:
