I currently have my new badboy yellow housed in a minimag. It's "allright" but the mini mag head rattles and I really would like a clickie switch. How is the feature/quality of the Legend 2AA vs. the minimag? I went to my local walmart but they did not offer the Legend 2AA. Any names of US common stores that sell the Lengend 2AA? (home depot, Lowes, etc.)

I have a store by the name of K-mart by me that sells the Legend 2AA. A friend of mine called somewhere (I think Brinkmann) and they told him that K-mart's are a large retailer of Brinkmann flashlights.

See this thread for online retailers. I've never found them locally.

As far as quality, I'd say the Legend is just as good for modding, although the stock beam on the Legend sucks compared to the minimag.

For me, the Legend just seems to have a better feel to it. The rear switch and rubber grips make it feel more tactical, and just more of a pleasure to use.

I was gonna say.... My new LX (20 bucks) destroys all of my Minimags (which I do love, BTW).

Post has been edited, but the damage seems to have been done, as now the thread has turned to discussing the LX.

Lux, OK lets steer this back to the beginning.

I got my Legend 2AA at REI for 10 bucks. It has a loose head somewhat, so I put a small piece of tape to hold the head where I want it. I think it needs a slightly thicker O-ring. I like the tail switch operation. This is a cool light. I see no reason why the BadBoy wouldnt just drop in -- after you remove that inner spring.

Oh, I have 2 tail switches on order - SB receiving these this week. I have this wild idea that I can mod this switch to fit very well on a Mag 2AA. When I get this done I'll post something on it. But if it fails - I keep silent.

Doug, me too. But I was grocery shopping and couldn't resist because of what I had read about it on the forum. For the price, I would bet that your wouldn't be disappointed.

I put my badboy in a 2aa legend from my local 'meijer' $7.99 the head was loose and annoyed me so I applied some threadlocker to it, tuned it for proper beam, and let it cure. Now the head is nice and secure, and the tailclicker works great. installation of the module and optics is identical to the minimag, except you do not have to optionally trim the flange on the tube, since it is slightly larger than the minimag. works great!

If anyone wants me to pick up a couple of these 2aa'a I'd be happy to do it and send them. the only color I've seen on the shelves is the pewter, it has a slightly greenish tinge.

Both lights hold the sandwiches in place quite well, both get warm pretty quickly, within a minute or so the front end is warm, and a couple minutes later the back end is warm also. if you are actually using the lights most of the heat will dissipate into your hands and the air as you waive it around and it won't get super warm. If you just turn the light and sit it on a bench to test the batteries the body will get get fairly hot (both minimag and 2aa legend), unless a fan is put on the light.

Which one dissipate heat better? I have a MADMAX on its way and just bought a minimag. But I'm also considering getting a Legend 2AA. I suppose the MADMAX will produce a lot of heat? And how good each of them holding the sandwich in place?

From what you guys say the head is loose on the Legend AA as well. That is what annoys me about the minimag. Not horribly loose but I've been spoiled by Arcs and Surefires. I may check out Kmart for a Legend AA next time I'm there but it sounds like I'm better off just ordering a minimag clickie switch from Brightguy.

Ledled, I can attest that the minimag with badboy yellow gets pretty warm when left on untouched for extended periods of time. The whole light from head to tailcap gets warm so I would assume this is a good indicator of decent heat dissipation.

The older Mini-mags were made much better than they are now. Comparing a new Mini-mag to a Legend, I find the Legend to be of superior quality. I have not had any problems with "loose heads" on any of the Legends I 've worked on...

As a company, I really prefer to do business with Brinkmann. They are a stand-up company that backs their products and they don't seem to spend all their time looking to sue anyone who is building their own flashlight. The more I read about Mag, the less I like what they're about..

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I agree with this wholeheartedly. I recently purchased a few Minimags to experiment with, and there seems to be a substantial difference in "feel" between these new ones and my old, banged up 7 (or more) year old Minimag. The new ones are noticably lighter, and everything fits together much more loosely. Maybe this is why people see a lot of bulb failures in minimags but I don't (i.e., CPFers are not cheap like me and don't carry around an ancient product, but rather get newer versions)? Mag has either reduced the wall thickness in the new Minimags or have gone to a lighter AL alloy (hmmm, maybe they've gone to titanium?

) I guess I could try to mic the minimag walls, but I don't know how accurately I could do it on my beat up old minimag.

I also have a Brinkman Legend AA, and my personal take is that in terms of quality, the ranking would be:

old minimag --> brinkmann --> new minimag

Seems like if you could get an old minimag, it would provide the best heat dissipation due to the extra metal in the body. (well, it seems to me that there must be extra metal due to its greater weight)
