I promised in a previous post to report the results of my search for an inexpensive push-on lens cap that could protect the M6. I tried a 62mm and a 64mm. The 62mm is too small. The 64mm is just a tad too big. A 63mm cap may be the best fit, but I couldn't find one to test.

However, I found that a strip of gaffers tape around the inside lip of the 64mm cap made it the perfect size. Probably any tape would work but gaffers tape lends itself to ripping a straight, proper size, narrow strip.

Here's the link to the 64mm lens cap at B&H Photo. It's $6.50. If anyone finds a source for a 63mm push-on lens cap, please post it. I would like to try it.

Note that I have found that different makes of the same size lens caps differ slightly in size so I can only vouch for the 64mm Kaiser cap linked above.

The main advantages of the push-on lens cap over the Surefire FM27 Beamcover (besides price) are its compact size and that nothing sticks out that could catch on a coat pocket.
