Li-ion battery dangers

Just wondering what the dangers of li-ion batteries and how often does this happen.

Curious because over here in the uk it is legal to lamp rabbits and for a while now li-ion batteries are becoming more frequently used, there supposed to be safe using the supplied charger, but the other day I heard of I guy who came back home just in time to avoid a major house fire, his 12 v 10 amp battery had exploded while on charge and caused several little fires in his living room.....

Are the led lights batteries just as dangerous.

If you aren't safe, ANYTHING is dangerous.

Even pizza. If I bag pizza up and sell it to you a few weeks later, it will be quite dangerous to your health. That's improper pizza use!

The short version is: Buy quality batteries and a reliable charger. Ensure that your batteries have reliable protection against:

*Overheat
*Overvoltage
*Undervoltage
*Over-current

And monitor the batteries when they charge, or only charge them in a fire-proof place away from water.

Li-Ion rechargeable batts, especially for flashlights --> "protected" --> are quite safe,
but of course there are some incidents, which are blown up :rolleyes: to make the article in TV/newspaper/internet more appealing to ppl wanting to hear/read of this ...
