Limitations of the P60 Module

The P60 appears to be about the most common module and is very compact. I personally have about ten P60 hosts and have just got myself a 2x18650 host.



I was hoping that in getting the 2x18650 I would be able to give the module more power (rather than just doubling the run time) and therefore greater output.



So far my findings with the P60 modules I have, that are capable of the higher input voltage, are that they simply draw approx half the current and performance is much the same.



With something like the Quark AA, when you change from an AA to a 14500 the difference is dramatic with around double the output. I would like to get this same effect with a P60.



Many P60s only go to 4.2V or 6V (so a max of two CR123s) rather than the 8.2V of two 18650s.



I am beginning to wonder if this is simply because the power handling/heat-sinking the P60 form factor is capable of, is only as much as a single Li-ion can deliver, therefore in the design of the module's power supply will generally limit the total power.



Has this size of module reached the limitations of heat-sinking?



Are there any modules that make full use of the extra voltage of 2 Li-ions?



Even if there are restrictions on how long you can run bursts of full power I would like to have the full benefit of the extra power available (I run an iTP A3 on 10440 and this can only run for a minute or two on high).



Do you know of any P60 modules worth looking at that will give a much greater output with 2x18650?
