UPDATE 3-29-05:

The incomplete LionCub body is here. "Incomplete" in that we simply needed it Right Now to send to the proto machinist to work out the sizing/spacing/exact fitment of the LionHead that will be the real feature setting this pocketlight apart from the rest.

But meanwhile I was able to fiddle with it a bit to make sure all parts will indeed go together as planned:

Cub-xplode.jpg

Note the thickness of that little .840" diameter UCL lens...

Cub-Trip.jpg

*Disclaimer: this is NOT the Bin Code that will be used as the X1 tint is just a little too "warm" for my tastes - but Thanks nonetheless "Mr. C", much appreciated!

And here is a shot next (and I mean *Next*) to a couple of "known" lights:

CubLine.jpg

Just a lil' bit shorter.../ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Here we see it with some other "known" lights, except with a couple of parts switched around to illustrate the Lego-like versatility of the entire package (attainable only if one indeed *has* the entire package):

More to come soon, as things will now ramp up quite rapidly.../ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

UPDATE 3-24-05:

The gold-on-nickel springs arrived today:

Adds a nice lil' Midas Touch, don't ta think?/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

UPDATE 3-21-05:

Here is a picture of the first LionHead-in-the-rough:

Lh-prot-sml.jpg

Note that only the conical top part will be the actual Lh, the rest is there to give something for the lathe to hang on to during shaping. Also there will be a thin narrow bezel that screws down on top to hold in the eventual lens and o-ring.

And - I just got confirmation that the first completed LionCub body is in the mail to me today. Comparison pictures next to known lights will be coming quite soon...

UPDATE 3-17-05:

Luminaria 'Shopped the photo of the bare aluminum LionCub shown on the other thread, to give us an idea of how the black ones will look:

It even gots the button on the side and white light comin' out the end...cool!

HERE is the original thread on LIONCUB UPDATES, with the latest updates through 3-16-05 (including all photos) appearing in the very first post.

Make 200? "Ahh Data, if it were only so easy..." (hey, that sounded just like what Capt. Jean-Luc Piccard would say!)

Doug, I am going to have to do it the easiest way (for me) that I can. I am only one person...

Thanks CPFman.

Sakugenken, that's funny. Didja get my PM on the other side?

Hey Britt, you just love this whole shushin' thing, don'tcha? Hee hee!

Codeman, that may be an idea, but Dan is not involved in this one at all (nor does he even know about the ST's, unless he's had time to check this thread!)...

Hi Frenchy!

I think Piccard would actually just say, "Make it so!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/str.gif

But, Dan would have a list of the official LC buyers, along with email addresses! Just a thought. As crazy as the USL project has been with the list, I thought it might help ya!

So, what's the matter with the black ones /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ?

lcblack.jpg

Charlie, you are wonderful and evil at the same time! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif The Lioncub is looking beautiful, and I can't wait to find out what the STs are (hence the evil part...too much suspense!). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know Code-y, we'll see.

luminaria, thanks for the black rendering. I like it better than the Natural. Mind if I use it?

GadgetGirl - Yep, "evil" is me middle name, heh heh...oh, and "Top o'the mornin'" to everyone on this most happy Saint Patty's day! (it IS St. Patrick's day, ain't it?)

Charlie and Endeavor,

Thanks for the insight to LED longevity. I'm not a real technical person. I like a light to turn on at whatever brightness I want it to when I push the switch and then turn off when I push it again.

Charlie, the LC looks great! I'm really intrigued by the ST mystery. So, if you buy four LC's you are initially eligible to buy only four or less ST's?

Only if you PM me what the ST is /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Of course you can use it as you like.

Crash, yes, if you get a hundred LC's you can buy up to a hundred ST's. In fact here's the deal I'll put up right now (and may come to very much regret later) - if you buy more than one LC, then regardless of how big the rush is on ST's when they are made available, I will GUARANTEE that you will be able to purchase at least ONE ST, if not more - up to your quantity of LC's of course. How's that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

luminaria - it's a deal - I'm using the pic so I'll tell you what the ST is! (except I can't tell you for about a month...hee haw!)

Thanks for your great sense of humor!

No wallet lock can overcome the CPF wallet drainer!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mr Bulk, you never said if my guess of the ST=14500 based light is true. I think that the ST will look like TnC Keylux AA which kindof looks like a baby LC?

Regards.

Charlie could you post a picture that shows the lanyard attachment ? The light looks great so far !

MY, I believe I did, simply by denying I even knew what a 14500 was. The "ST" will not necessarily resemble any flashlight, nor can I guarantee it will even Be a light at all - as I said, although Flashoholics could enjoy it, so would anyone else... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Doc, although I do not have the CAD sketches for that part in my possession, I do indeed have a pencil and paper and scanner:

Lanyard-Passage.jpg

Please bear in mind that this is NOT drawn to scale, nor even really close to what the actual cuts will be (I drew this freehand). It is simply to provide a general idea of the method by which the lanyard passing will be achieved...and to illustrate that in no way would it ever interfere with tailstand ability, a feature which I am discovering more and more is one Heck of a good thing for any flashlight to possess...

Oh yeah, one more diversionary hint: "ST" actually stands for "Supreme Turbo-fusion"!!!
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif

Apologies if this has been asked and answered:

Will the "LionHead" be offered in both "black" and "natural"? I want to be sure that I don't lock myself into getting a mismatched set.

Thanks for the sketch, MR Bulk!

Do you think the LH's pocketclip will fit the LC? I'm thinking it might stick out past the tail some, but I'm just curious.

Since everyone else is jumping in, I'll take a shot at guessing the ST. Based on some recent research that I have heard Charlie has been doing, I think the ST is probably a laser operated chrch key with tractor beam option.

Just like Carlie said - who wouldn't want one of those?

Charlie,
Just a suggestion, maybe you can put a link to the ordering section of the Lion Cub. A lot of people get confused or just do not know where to place the order.

As to the ST, i surely hope I'd be able to get one. Things have been more hectic for me lately and i do not get to check CPF as often as i wanted. I'd be sad if I run out of the ST the day it comes out because i was unable to check the threads. Surely there must be a efficient way to handle the ST ordering... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

seattlite - are you in Seattle? I plan to retire either there or somewhere along the West Cost in about three short years - where I'll probably get serious about forming a real flashlight company (if they haven't gone to fusion power sources by then - hey, waitaminute...) - anyway to answer your question: I will put up an interest thread around the time the Cubs are being built, to gauge how many LionHeads would really be bought, and go from there. So yes, if 50% of the Blacks and 75% of the Naturals indicated they wanted Lh's, I'd make 50 blacks and 75 Naturals. Something like that.

Code-y, yes the LH clip will fit the LC's shorter tube (diameters are all the same although the clip would indeed stick out about 3/4") but then it would fit Perfectly when the LH's longer tubes are switched over to the LC...

JimH, RIGHT-O! (not) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif

Dandrop, all will likely be able to buy at least one ST, but even if some don't get to, there's always the bST that will follow shortly afterwards. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Seriously, I appreciate all the loyal support. We here at BulkWare™ shall strive mightily Not to disappoint - Any LC buyer!
