For those lucky folks who have a lionheart, could someone please do a runtime test on the 5 levels setting? Since the battery juice is free, I am hoping that this request will not be too much of a burden (other than the time required).

Thanks.

Regards.

Good idea. I'd like to find out too.

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

I'd be happy to oblige, but I have two stumbling blocks in the way.
One is that the lab computer used for this test has not yet been set up, and the other is that my LionHeart was a loaner, and was mailed back yesterday. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

That would be some nice information to have. I'd give it a go on the lower levels, but with no instruments I'd be guessing. Besides, I can't stop playing with the LH long enough to do a multiple hour test.

From other threads, and doing my own eyeballing, Level 1 goes 75-80 minutes to about 50% with output falling off very noticeably, and very quickly. Georges80, who designed the electronics, guestimates runtime on Level 5 to be in the 200 hour range IIRC.

Thanks in advance for the person who will do these runtime tests!

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

The 75- to 90-minute times sound about right for High, not sure anyone would have the time to do Levels 3, 2, and especially 1, though...but then again I just might if I remember and find the time in my own daily grind.

Originally I was thinking in terms of doing 64 levels and then quickly realized, "Yeah, Right...", but doing just the other 4 levels might not be so bad. The wife and daughter are flying out to CA Sunday to visit relatives and their new baby (I'm not goin', gots a lotta lights to build very soon) so I should have time early next week - provided the HA3 bodies don't arrive first...

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

id do it but i misplaced my homemade meter.i get like 100 minutes on high .but thats going by my eyes.i keep checking to see if it can shine up on the abannded house across the way

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

Hey Raggz,

Actually, although less scientific, this is indeed a Better way to check for *useful* brightness - to periodically observe over time how well you can still make out a known, dark, distant object or area - such as an abandoned house...

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

Thanks Mr. Bulky for considering doing the runtimes - I guess that some folks have way too much time on their hands /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif.

I was hoping that a person who has a "set up and forget, let the computer do the work" system set up, that would not force a person to sit and stare at the business end of the LH for 100+ hours at level 1, would do the runtimes.

Regards.

I actually have a "Set It and Forget It" battery discharge analysis device, but the computer necessary to host it has not been installed yet. No room to set it up at this time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hmm - that means you'll need a PC that won't crash after running day & night for at least a week. Hmm - might need to be a Linux machine then /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif

Someone send me a light and I'll do some runtime plots!

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

MY,

To me, things don't seem to be quite that easy. As you said, the runtime measurement is something like "set up and forget, let the computer do the work" type thing, but at least in my case, I need to keep a room dark and I cannot use the room during the test. A test method that this_is_nascar is using may not require a dark room, but I'm not sure and I will not use that method.

Also, since I'm using a lightmeter and DMM for the runtime measurement, I probably need to change batteries in these equipments if I need to run the test for 200 hours. I need to check the battery status on these equipments periodically, otherwise the result will be inaccurate.

So... I will not do runtime tests on the dim mode /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Regarding other levels, here you go.

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

Thanks for the doing the tests Mr. kj - wonderful graphs. Notice how each level is twice as bright as the next lower level thus confirming the even spacing of output levels. From what others have noted in their "brightest" runtime, there appears to be a wide range from your 65 or so minutes to their over 90 minutes to 50%. Is this wide range of concern to others? I am wondering if kj has a high Vn unit or is some other factor entering into this equation to create such a range given that Mr. Bulky is hand selecting the emitters?

Thanks again for those doing the tests.

Regards.

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

Thanks kj. MY, I think it would depend on what others are using as their cut off points. Some were when 50% brightness was reached, some were simply watching and cut off for them was when they could visibly notice dimming with the naked eye, etc.

And Raggie, who does not have his measuring equipment available any longer, got over 100+ minutes until he could no longer see the distant abandoned house up behind his, which is a known measurement (albeit analogous) and which with other tested lights he has extensive comparative experience.

I think 50% brightness is a good yardstick, as even Roy (who is still pleading and begging for someone to loan him a LionHeart!) consistently uses this cut off point. And perhaps his equipment is wall-warted so no replenishing of batteries is necessary to interrupt any tests. And perhaps he is single and lives in a big house so he has any number of rooms he can keep darkened and undisturbed. And perhaps at night, when he is all alone, he also likes to - okay okay Roy I'll stop right here since you didn't delete any LH posts - yet... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

Mr Bulk.....your are right on most counts (you been spying on me?).....I am single and do live in a three bedroom house by myself! To keep the DMM going for long plots, I have replaced the single 9v battery with 4 9v's. Sad to report that my ability to acquire new lights for testing has been hampered by the need to pay off some doctor and hospital bills (6mm Kidney stone)!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif But there is light at the end of the financial tunnel and I should be back in the runtime business again soon.

Re: Lionheart runtime request on the 5 level setti

Thanks, KJ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Charlie, you explained reasons for the varying runtimes reported very well. I hadn't thought of any of that. Mainly because, like Raggie, I don't have a Light Meter and usually do my own tests so I know what my particular light in my particular uses and with my particular eyeballs will do.

I collect these great runtime plots for as many of my personal lights as I can.

Roy, You're a good sport, I'm sorry to hear of your recent gall bladder problem, my brother had that and it was extremely painful.

Charlie, you made me spill my coffee...that was hilarious.

Excellent work - I'll throw in this tidbit, yes, each level (that you ran the tests for) is very roughly 1/2 the current (duty cycle) of the previous level (log curve actually - that why the med/low is so different than the med). The lowest level though, doesn't follow this rule, it is 28 times shorter in duty cycle than the med/low. So, in theory. the lowest level should have about 28 times the runtime of the med/low - so definitely in the 200+ hour range that I'm guesstimating...

Nice runtime eh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
