Microwaving them is a good idea if you like hearing popping sounds and scraping slimey, corrosive battery poop off the walls, floor, turntable, and door of your microwave.
The metal walls of the battery could also create sparks between them and the bottom of your oven; as the metal absorbs the RF radiation your microwave creates (2.4GHz typical) and it manifests itself as an electrical charge.
Generally, these electrical arcs will burn the finish inside your oven, and the burning paint may create some fumes or vapours that aren't very good for you.
And you run the risk of burning out the microwave's magnetron (the doodad in there that creates the microwaves).
In short, NOT GOOD!!! DON'T DO IT!!!
