Looking for a basic single AA side switch.

I’m just looking for something that is going to be reliable under light duty conditions. Worst case scenario it will get rained on for a few minutes maybe a few times a year and it might get dropped occasionally from about three feet max. My cheap SK68 clone has worked out just fine so far, but I want a Side switch and something more efficient.

• Single AA (I run NiMH)
• Side switch
• General purpose beam
• At least around 50 Lumens or so
• Single mode

A trip to a good diy store should sort you out quite easily as you are not asking for anything unreasonable.

I Thought so, but that hasn't been the case. I've been to several retail and hardware stores with no luck so far.

The only difference between the two is that the HomeDepot version has a clip.

We have the Brinkmann version. It has a great beam profile similar to the Fenix E01 -- there is not a distinct transition from hotspot to spill. The spill is brightest near the hotspot and gradually gets dimmer approaching the perimeter of the spill.

The Brinkmann version can be purchased from reputable online stores like amazon and brightguy. The Defiant version can be purchased from HomeDepot online and in store.

A family member uses it, so I can't remember if it meets your criterium of having a forward clicky.

Hmm do I have my terms wrong? I always though a forward clicky was a switch mounted near the front of the flashlight like the Olight S15 and a tail clicky was a switch on the back. Just to clear things up I'm looking for one with a switch on the side near the front.

Intuitively, that makes sense, lol...A forward clicky means that the light has momentary capable activation. This means that the forward motion, or push in, will activate the light. While the switch is maintained in any forward position, the light will be activated. Soft pressing from the Off state will activate the light as long as it's held. Soft pressing from the On state will do nothing.

A reverse clicky is one that activates after the switch has been fully released after the activation click. This means that any time the switch is pushed forward, the light will be off. Soft pressing from the Off stage will do nothing, soft pressing from the On state will deactivate the light for as long as the switch is held.

Side switches (mags, electronic switches, etc) may operate similar to either of the above, or be an electronic switch. These are preferred for underhanded carry.

A forward clicky is the opposite of a reverse clicky. A reverse clicky when the light is off you have to press the switch till it clicks to get light and then pressing it in will interrupt the power till you let go of it. Forward clickies a press of the switch without clicking gives light letting go turns the light off. Forward clickies are also called "tactical" as you can get a quick burst of light without the noise of a click. Some switches are not clickies at all but electronic switches.

I'm pretty set on a side switch. The only thing I'd compromise with is the output. I'd be willing to go a little dimmer or significantly brighter as long as the run time is at least around 1.5 hours or more.

Forget it fella you will not find a side mounted switch light for pocket money prices,best you look at the Chinese lights on the flea where you have more chance of a find.

There's a bunch of single aa side switch lights on DX, but can't really speak for their reliability..

In addition to the challenge mcnair55 pointed out, has any company ever released a side mounted switch light with just a single mode ? I'm not trying to be a pessimist; I'm just wondering out loud. If there is not such a thing, then maybe the closest thing to it is a side mounted switch light that remembers the last mode that was used.

I'm not opposed to getting one from a Chinese vendor which is what I wound up doing. Lowes used to sell one made by Utilitech and I actually own a few, but I want one a little bit more durable.
