Looking for a new edc light that I can use at work as well. Need throw and spill as I patrol and work on powerlines at night and on storms. So far I have found:

Surefire EDCL2T
Fenix UC35 V2
Fenix PD35 V2
Nitecore MH12GT

Anyone have any experience with these or suggestions? Thanks.

I would say the Streamlight ProTac HL5x as it has over 3000 lumens on high, over a thousand on medium and over 200 for extra long runtime needs. Can use primary batteries too.
I use the HL4 at my work sometimes. Medium is 600 lumens which easily lights a work area and the frosted lens does not blind people I'm around. The 5 has a side switch where the 4 has a rear switch.

The SureFire would make a great backup when you need to see a good long ways for downed trees or tall poles, then the low is great for walking around or finding tools in the truck. Plus it can ride in your trousers easily. You can run it on a 16650 to get an estimated 60% output, which still aint bad for that super thrower.
 
The SF edc line is great but I don’t think the 1000 lumens last long , idk if you’d need it to or not.

Maybe a Malkoff wildcat?

Are you looking to use rechargeables or primaries

Are you plan on carrying it in a belt holster or in a vehicle ?

The SF line of 1000 plus lumen lights are good but man if you run them off of 2X123 the current draw is scary. That is if that sort of thing scares you I mean😁
 
Agreed TG. The L2T he mentioned is great for a minute or two but after 3 or 4 minutes it gets too warm for me.
I use mine when I need to spot trouble ahead, like 3 football fields away. But for sustained use I like the ProTac HL4 since it don't get so dang hot. But the frosted lens does not let it reach out practically to the next county like that SureFire E optic does.

Some of the power line easements near me can be pretty sketchy at night so after a storm, if I were the "checker" looking for an interuption I'd definitely want a mega thrower like the EDCL 2T 'cause if I aint gotta travel down that hill I aint gonna.

When I did this work I had a Streamlight Litebox and a Streamlight UltraStinger, both with charging cradles in my truck. My pocket EDCs included a Streamlight Microstream and Streamlight ProTac 2L. I also kept a couple of Streamlight Headlamps in my truck. Be safe out there.
 
If you are considering the Fenix UC35 V2, then I would recommend the Fenix PD36R as it is brighter with a longer runtime using the 21700 battery.

+1 on the stingers, I forgot about those

Also +1 on the headlamps Poppy.

I’ve used black diamond headlamps in the past with great results

Ive also used a prinstontec? Headlamp with a belt holstered battery pack that held 6-8 AA, I forget and it had crazy throw and offered a few modes too. I believe I got it at cabelas if I remember correctly .

Another option would be the New P30 from Nitecore. It uses the 21700 cell for a longer run time, but it can also use 18650, CR123, and RCR123 cells with the included adaptor. It will throw 600 meters on turbo (but not for long) and has a 7 hr runtime for the 300 meter mode. It would be easy to carry an extra cell along, and/or have a couple cells on charge in your vehicle. I used the original P30 for my EDC, and found it to be an ideal choice for both close up and long throw. And the rear on/off switch would be easy to operate even with gloves on.
 
I use the Malkoff Hound Dog 18650 at work. Good combination of throw and spill. You can choose cool or neutral. Runs mainly on an 18650. The regular Hound Dog and the Hound Dog Super are awesome too, but the 3 cell and 4 cell bodies are recommended, still can use rechargeable or CR123. I have used the heck out of that light, dropped it numerous times from pretty good heights, been caught in a piece of machinery and tossed around. I have the neutral and really like the beam pattern. Good throw and nice spill. The clicky will last super long and if it does go out it is easily replaceable by the owner. Never had any problems in the rain with water getting in. I assume they are water tight up to a certain pressure.
 
Thanks guys. I am out of a bucket and into a pick up now. It have a nice led golight attached t my truck with a remote. Looking for a small edc for all day carry as well as those times i jump out of the tuck and brought right of ways.
 
The EDCL2-T will be great then Shane. Lots of throw. Or an Elzetta Bones. That one can use an 18650 or primaries. Great for lighting dark manholes for your underground stuff in the daytime too.

I'm a roadway inspector and use a variety of flashlights, but my go to is a single CR123 I carry in my pocket for many uses and the Elzetta Bones in the door of my truck. If I can help a crew see at night better the Streamlight HL4 is the go to for that. The crew(s) appreciate the non blinding aspect of the HL4.
I found the Bones was better suited for my needs than the EDCL2T, just because it doesn't get hot. A Bravo AVS with hi/lo tailcap is a Bones with ability to put out around 15 lumens if you don't need/want a lot of light. But the barrel does not have room for an 18650 battery. Both can be outfitted with a "speed clip" for belt/pocket carry. That clip is just like the one from SureFire's old U2 light only removable. And Elzettas wire type lanyard ring does not protrude beyond a speed clip while allowing a wrist strap to be attached. Sometimes I shine my Bones into places if it were dropped I'd leave it there like deep crevices under a roadway or a turd filled sewer manhole.

I tried a hi/lo tailcap on the Bones and go 100% and about 90% output (looking at the brightness). So yeah.

But the Bones was conceived as a "bare Bones", simple to build simple to use flashlight. Less moving parts they said means less to go wrong.
 
For EDC pocket carry, I use a Streamlight 2l-X. Just the right size for me and I can see the tops of poles. However when walking right of ways. I will use my Litebox with the spot LED.
 
Consider Fenix PD36R for EDC, it won't let you down I promise. With rechargeable 21700 battery, it offers enough lumens and lasting runtime that you need. For me, I love the two-way body clip and wide-range lighting vision, it helps when I need light at work.

I'd go with Fenix UC35 or PD35. I'd stay away from Nitecore.
Surefire has great build quality but
1. 5lm only runs for 60 hours. PD35's 3lm runs 400+ hours.
2. either 1000lm or 5lm, this is not for me. My most used settings are 5lm and 50lm.
3. EDCL2T doesn't seem to take 18650?!
4. priced way too high.

Also, if you don't mind the larger head of EDCL2T, why not give Fenix Tk15UE, TK 22 new version, or TK20R a look? Fenix's TK lineup is tough and overbuilt, supreme quality.
