Hey all

I'm looking to buy my first Li-Ion powered light, and I've decided on using RCR123s because they're not expensive (I have a low budget) and they're small (I don't need much runtime). I already have a LiIon charger so I think this is the best choice for me.

My only criteria are that be compatible with RCR123s, use one (1), have 2 modes (high and low only, if possible), and have a forward click on the tailcap. It should be as cheap as possible, below $30 if you can.

I am currently leaning toward the RC-A4 from Shingbeam. (I'm probably going to switch out the driver board to get Hi-Med-Low)

If you could also provide recommendations on cheap, protected RCR123 cells, that would be great. I am currently looking at 4 of these cells from DealExtreme.

Either the Rc-A4 you 're looking or (if you can make a small step) a Jetbeam BC-10
Regarding batteries, if you want to stay at low cost, look probably for Trustfire (black with flames) or make the step (again...) and go for AW...

BC10 is a nice EDC. But you loose low mode when you use 3.7v li-ion RCR123A becuse BC10 is direct-drive on that battery.
Please see Selfbuilt review.

You can see "Runs fine with 1 x RCR123A Li-ion, but not recommended by the manufacturer." on the website.
I'd like you to ask Shining beam.

If you don't mind, I recommend this & one of them you want.

2nd the BC10 its now my new EDC love it. Mainly because I do not what to mark my RRT-0 yet.

cheers

The BC10 from Jetbeam is a really nice light, but I am not considering it because it is over my budget and it does not run well on RCR123s. The option to use a Solarforce body and drop-in is also ruled out because of price.

I can get a RC-A4 and a replacement driver board for $26. Anyone have any alternatives?

@asot: Are these the cells you are talking about?
