Hi. I need a recommendation for a lantern, half decent power output that's portable and hopefully under $30 that I can use for camping, fixing car, etc. Adjustable light output would be nice, a basic 3 modes would do (hi, med, low). I can probably use 18650's or better yet AA's as I have quite a few recharagable AA's. Prefer LED efficiency as well. Waterproofing is a plus but not overly necessary, and of course standing upright is mandatory with a nice even spread preferably, and a lil string around it or something to hang it would be nice as well.

I also just got a new xml "2000 lumens" zoomable light off ebay for $20 and so far I am very impressed with it's power but it is not memory mode but next mode. Does anyone know a decent 5mode (hi, med, low, sos, flash) memory mode torch or even 3 mode (hi, med, low) that will run on a single 18650/3.7v. My google search seems to bring up 17mm modules and the tube is 19mm so it'd be annoying to fit it in.

I need to track down some legit 18650 batteries with protection circuits in them as I don't feel like juggling a potential liion saber. $5-10AUD per battery would be ok if there are any in that range?

And finally a recommendation on a $20-30 XM-L zoomable torch with memory mode, at least hi, med, low but sos and flash would also be handy too and 1-2 18650's. My other option is get 2 drivers and buy another of the torch I have, although it doesn't have the full contact behind the led itself, so it just heatsinks to the very sides which is a bit of a sad point so a recommendation on one with the full contact for better heatsinking would be great.

Thanks.

fasttech carries the convoy S2 for less than $15
I'd get it driven at 1400 ma.
that gives it a nice blend of output about 450-500 lm high, and a good run-time on a single 18650.
