Hi everyone, this is my first post

I am currently looking for a bright LED flashlight that can be focused to flood. I'm a bit scared to take out the trash since I live in a wooded suburb with a forest a block away and my eveready AA LED flashlight does not illuminate the alley between my neighbor's house and my house where the trashcans are and neither does my dad's iphone4 with flashlight app. I was looking into the LED lenser line, and I liked the p17. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

What's your price range? How much runtime? Modes? How much throw?

If focusing is a very important feature, then you are left with zoomie budget lights (quality can be hit or miss), LensLight (Pricey), Maglite (beam is ugly when out of focus), and LEDLenser (has a negative rep around here).

Are you in the US? If so, next time your at a home improvement store (like Home Depot), see if they have the Rayovac Indestructible lights. Those are pretty nice easier to find lights at a cheap price and could work for you. No focusing and single mode only though.

:welcome:

LensLight makes the nicest ones. You pay for that quality though - they're expensive.

Budget is below 60 dollars, however I don't know what throw is as for run time I think anything above 2 hours is ok. I had maglites before but like you said the beams were ugly. I didn't know Led lensers were disliked here. What's so bad about them?

This thread might explain the dislike: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?337898-Why-the-dislike-for-LED-LENSER
From what I've read, some think that LEDLenser's only pro is that it can focus, plus they hold the rights to the focusing system or something (at least their version of it). They are decent lights, but some thing they aren't worth it, I don't own one so I can't say.

Throw is how far a light projects, so what range do you need to see at?

Well, I am not a great fan of Maglites, but I bought a mini mag pro the other day,and am suprised how much better the beam is when spread out than the previous ones. I picked it up at one of the home improvement stores for twenty three bucks...I figgured what the heck,if I didnt like it I would give it to my kid, but I think I will keep this one.

I do not really like LedLensers, because they are overpriced in my opinion. The Olight M20X or M21X both come with diffusers, and they are plenty bright for your task. A maglite D cells are also great for these tasks.

thanks for your suggestions, I think I might look into the olights. What do you think about 4sevens?

First thing you need to do is choose what batteries you're comfortable with using. Have a read at the batteries section of the forum if you haven't yet.

Most people in this forum dislike the focusable lights and prefer lights that use aspherics, I think crelant has the best aspheric head around.

4 sevens is a great brand with a solid warranty.

i am also looking for a focusable led light. it would be great if it were "daylight" balanced, and stepless power adjustment.

i am sure that this is a pipe dream.
