Hi,

Having read this forum at various points I've finally registered to seek some informed advice.

I currently have two Led Lenser flashlights that I have been quite happy with (Police Tech Focus & P14) but reading these forums it seems there maybe better alternatives out there, and the Led Lenser's have been the only two LED flashlights I have owned to date.

I was considering another Tech Focus but wondering if there may be some better alternatives.

Looking for:

  • a similar size to the Tech Focus
  • something with a little higher lumen output (>115)
  • ideally runs on AA or AAA batteries (I have many Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables already)
  • Focusing ideally, but more concerned with a decent flood
  • Longish burn time
  • Price up to ~$70 CDN

I am located in Ontario, Canada so need to be able to find it here in Canada or shippable to Canada.

Look forward to hearing some suggestions!

Although I am hesitant to recommend a TrustFire light due to the poor reputation and a bad experience of my own, the reviewer JohnnyMac seemed quite impressed with the TrustFire Z8. Notable points from that review:

  • Square threads throughout and generally high build quality
  • Properly water resistant zoomie (reviewer did a 20 minute soak)
  • "Flood is wonderful with this light ... around 490 lumen on high ... and 103 lumen on low."
  • 26mm x 100-110mm
  • Only $14.27 from the supplier he got it from now.

Unfortunately it requires a 14500 cell, so it's the right size but won't work with your Eneloops.

Thanks for the info, looking for a step up from the tech focus somewhat sceptical that at $15 the Trustfire Z8 is it, grateful for any other suggestions!

Since the Z8 build quality is apparently high (at least the sample that was reviewed) you might consider using it as a host. You could send it to vinhnguyen54 for tuning and clean-up, or an entire driver/LED swap.

If I find or remember another light that might interest you I'll post again.
