Looking for *small* portable HiFi digital recorder

Smaller and lighter than my Sony minidisc recorder ( 3 3/8” x 3 1/8” x ¾” 6.7oz with battery) that will enable me to make stereo recordings of at least minidisc quality using a separate plug-in mic. If that isn't possible then voice quality recordings are OK but the unit still must accept a separate mic and be extremely small and light. I’d like to keep the cost under $300.00. Does such an animal exist?

You could also consider the Ripflash DX, which records to directly to WMA format for extended record time.
Note that the inputs on these requre line inputs though, so you'll need an amplified microphone for it to work properly-
the Ripflash Trio doesn't, but it has other limitations that I didn't like.

I'd advise staying away from WMA. Stick with an open format that you can play in your boombox, car player, etc., without needing conversion. If you need more record time, buy a bigger flash card. They don't cost that much any more.
