Looking for the new EDC...

Hello,

I'm currently looking for the new EDC light. My requirements are:

1. Run by one 123 battery (small size)
2. Output +/- 500 lumens.
3. At least four modes evenly spread across lumens range with moon mode included. E.g. 1, 50, 150, 500 or 5, 80 , 200, 550. Or 2, 30, 100, 300, 500, etc.
4. At least 24 hours run on lowest mode
5. Must be known / good brand.
If someone of you have something on mind, please let me know. The only lights fulfilling my needs I managed to find were Jetbeam RRT-0 XML and Jetbeam PC10. It would be nice to have some more choice....

Sunwayman V11R, Eagletac D25C, Nitecore EC1, Olight S10, come to mind. All except the Eagletac need a Li-Ion to get your desired output though.

Depending on what your budget is, a Mac's Tri-EDC with custom programming by Flucero28 fits your criteria. Output at 700+ with XPG2's.
Needs an 18350 battery though.

The only light from this list worth considering is Sunwayman (lumens requirement), but still only 190 lumens, occasionally extended to 500, but for the very short period of time. In addition to that, from what I'm seeing at their internet site there are only two modes - 1 and 190 lumens? Kind of not good.

+1 on the Sunwayman V11R! I carry one night & day. I also carry small 10440 Peak (forgot the name) in another pocket. I find the V11R does almost everything I need it for. Dim for creeping around the house, bright for finding things or looking at the engine. Don't know about runtime. I don't run it on full bright for long--it gets HOT! It is a floody light--if that's what you're looking for. Won't spot any coyotes at 300 yards, though! lol The V11R has a ring to control brightness from very dim to very bright.

You will be much better served by two lights -- one that is bright and adjustable, and the other that runs a very long time on a very low setting. Peak can make lights that run at 1 lumen or less for a ridiculous amount of time (the AAA/10440 version is called the Eiger). As for the bright adjustable light, I like the Jetbeam RRT-0 -- it's as good as anything Sunwayman makes, and the control ring is better-designed.

In my experience, Sunwayman is better quality than Jetbeam.

If you want 500 lumens out of a 1xCR123 sized light, you are going to have to use LiIons. As far as I know, there aren't any lights that have that sort of output on a CR123.

Try a JetBeam RRT-01. Look in the good deals section over at the MP. like 49.99 or something like that. I endorse because mine works well, especially with 18350 IMR
