I ordered a Surefire E1B and some batteries from LA Police gear.com about 10 days ago, should have got it UPS yesterday. Shipping ground takes forever but was free.

So I call UPS this morning and they tell me the package is lost. I am on eastern standard time so it is going to be a few hours before they even get out of bed in California and see my e mail telling them to do a trace.

I don't think it was lost at all, I bet it was taken. Well it would have been my first high quality flashlight. Thanks for the let down hope your enjoying it UPS.

I've had a UPS package or two get lost. They were eventually located and arrived. So, a little bit of patience while your package gets redirected back to its route.

Being a flashlight, I'm sure it will be fine. I've received my share of "round" boxes shipped through UPS.

I hope yours turns up soon.

I hope you get your light soon. I know how frustrating it can be. I have had nothing but bad experiences with UPS. FedEx is the way to go if you can afford it. Even USPS Priority is better than UPS now.

Touch wood it never happens to me.
Everytime I have something shipped to me, it is always
on the back of my mind.

One thing I hate about UPS is that they will rarely deliver a package ahead of schedule. They will leave your package in a warehouse for a day or two rather than deliver it early.

FedEx in my experience is the KING
I brought a light from the US and it took 2 days to get to the UK
another light came from Korea, that took 2 days as well.
UPS .... average shipping time = 1 week

some places just use UPS

I seem to remember something about shipping OC

I've dealt with those LA people and everything was smooth.

I ordered a KUI (or KIU) high temp socket and some other stuff once and it hadn't shown after like 3 weeks,
I contacted the guy (was it Peter) and told him no joy.
He said wait and see.

Well.. 2 weeks later or so, still no stuff.
I contacted again.....

OMG did I look stupid because my wife had intercepted it and he probably thought I was trying to rip him off.
Turns out she gave me the stuff right after the... um..... tone..... of my emails had started to .... um.... shift slightly.

:ohgeez:oh jeez

I only had one UPS package go missing and I found the neighbor kids throwing my .264 bullets at each other.

I always use a CC online to help with the lost/stolen/damaged ect issues.

This isn't always true, from what I've seen (I've worked in a UPS hub for eight years), it is very rarely true, especially for packages shipping by ground service. My hub is one of the smaller ones, and we process around 350,000 packages a day, in December that will go up to half a million packages a day. We do not have a spot where we keep packages sitting around for a day or two so we can deliver packages later. Many packages going by ground service will arrive in 1-3 days depending on the distance from shipper to receiver.

UPS ships 13 million packages a day on average, sometimes stuff falls through the cracks, unfortunately (and most of our package handlers are not paid terribly well, you can often make more $$/hour at McDonalds). I've had packages get lost or damaged on occasion, but they always came through eventually. In those cases where they don't, that is where insurance comes into play.

Give the tracking and/or insurance system a chance before you go flying off the handle and accusing people of stealing your flashlight. At UPS we have to walk through metal detectors going in and out of work, and they take theft very seriously.

All I know is that when using tracking, comparing with FedEx, the UPS package frequently stalls somewhere along the way. I'm not sure if it's just tracking issues, or the actual movement of the package.

UPS after initiating a trace for about 4 hours still knows nothing. They say it takes them 10 business days to complete their investigation. I already waited 10 days, I refuse to wait 10 more. At this point the thrill is gone. A UPS supervisor told me he is baffled because the last scan showed it entered the local UPS warehouse, then nothing.

I told him my stupidity in allowing you a second chance from your last screw up baffles me. I should have learned from my mistake in trusting UPS and payed a little more to have Fed EX do the job right. Worst part about UPS , they don't even act like they care.

I've never had a problem with UPS. Recently, with the USPS, I waited nearly 2 weeks for a small package sent first class by 4Sevens. I was certain it was lost when 10 days had passed. I was told to wait 30 days. It eventually came, looking no worse for the delay. I'll bet your package will eventually arrive.

In my experience it has been the tracking that has not been properly updated.

I've had items that, according to tracking, were hundreds of miles away be delivered while I was checking the tracking information.

Oh yes, UPS responds very well to insults. Do you? You expect results after four hours??? Yeah, lets shut down the whole building and send out a search party for your $100 flashlight.

I only blew up at the very end when they told me it was going to take them 10 days to get back to me. To me 10 days is an unacceptable and unreasonable time frame to expect a person with normal sensibilities to just sit and wait.

They also knew two days ago there was a problem, but failed to say anything. So excuse me for hoping UPS might show even a tiny bit of gee we are sorry. Or maybe even offer the shipper free overnight service to get another package out. Guess not, that would be called customer service!

First class USPS is the usual snail mail. USPS Priority is where the Post Office really kicks butt. Very impressive 1 or 2 day delivery times at a very reasonable price. No, I don't work for the US Post Office. :) I even prefer Priority over FedEx, unless you really need FedEx's excellent tracking. Am I off topic here? If so, I'm really sorry. I get sidetracked easily.

I was living in Australia and purchased a camera lens from a shop in the US. I paid for USPS airmail and 2 weeks went by and no package. So I emailed the seller and he said he had definitely sent it. Another couple of weeks went by and no package so I emailed the shop again and got a reply that he thought the guy who he sent to the post office might have sent it surface by mistake.

Sure enough, just over three months after it was posted, the parcel arrived.

I have experienced variations on this several times and the package usually arrives at some point.

UPS is possibly the worst delivery service that has ever existed. Slow, and a complete rip off with their brokerage (*cough*RIPOFF*cough*) fees. I've had packages arrive where the brokerage fees were far higher than what the item has cost, and we are talking small items. A streamlight microstream+Benchmade Pika cost me $15.95 for UPS shipping, then when it arrived, $38.00 in "brokerage" fees.

Yes, other shipping companies charge these fees, but no where near as high as UPS. In fact, there is a lawsuit that is currently going on because of this. They don't do nearly enough to warn unsuspecting consumers about these fees--then show up at your door demanding the fee or they hold your package.

I have (quite a long time ago) decided never to use their service for anything again -- and if a supplier won't use another shipping service, I'll use another supplier.

Sorry for long rant, but seeing this opened a wound.

Ahh, metal detectors, as we all know only metal things have value. Niiiice.
No, but many metal things do. What would you suggeast? Daily full body cavity searches for the 1000+ people that work in the building? We also have video surveillance inside the hub to help prevent theft, as well as on-site security personnel and snitch lines co-workers can call to report theft.

Sure we still have bad eggs at UPS, any company with over 300,000 people will, but they do take steps to try and prevent theft, and the company is self-insured for lost, stolen, or damaged packages, so if something goes missing, the company pays, not some third party insurance company.

No company is perfect, there are things I don't much like about the company myself (like the fact the stating wage has only gone up 50 cents an hour in more than 20 years), but the odds are very high that your package will arrive on time and intact. Unfortunately some areas seem to have worse customer service than others.
