Hi guys, haven't been around in quite a while. I bought myself a Fenix P3D Q5 quite some time ago and was very happy with it. Unfortunately I just lost it while on a hiking trip, and so I'm thinking of getting something new. I loved the size of the P3D as it wasn't too big, and carried nicely in the pocket I found. Also cranked out a good amount of light for how small it was. All that being said, it has been my only decent light, and so I wouldn't mind trying something different this time around.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jason

Well first get a Maratac AAA from County Comm so you have something to play with and won't kill your wallet.

Then you better do some reading and see what you might light to try. You might like a NovaTac 120P now, or the new Ra Lights 140 Clicky, both single CR123 lights.

The P3D is still a really good all round light, in a good size, so you can replace it with the update Fenix PD30. JetBeam III ST might be worth a look, or if you can go a little bigger I like the JetBeam III-M with a Neutral tint (better for outdoors).

The possibilities are pretty endless. The Fenix TK-20 is a good camping light that can take a beating ans runs on AA cels. I like the Fenix TK11 alot as well if you want to move to 18650 rechargable Lithium cells (they work in the JetBeam III-M as well). All these are a bit bigger than the P3D.

You might like to have a backup light like the EZ-AA that runs on a single standard AA cell and is quite small.

OK I'm just rambling... the possibilities are numerous... tell us more about what you like and don't like.

If you really liked the P3D I bet you would really be happy with the 123x2 Quark. It has a very nice low mode, and is brighter than the Fenix you had. It has good knurling and isn't slippery like the P3D. It is available in a cool white R2 emitter or a neutral white Q3 5A emitter. It would allow to use the CR123 batteries like your Fenix or also can use various li-ion rechargable battery formats.

The Quark 2x123 is the same size as the P3D but has a better beam and will get almost as much runtime on a 17670 battery as it will with primary CR123's according to Selfbuilt's runtime graphs.

My P3D Q5 was my favorite light until very recently. I still have it (and I'm not selling it), but its place in my heart and my flashlight rotation has been taken by the Quark 123^2. Same form factor, pocket clip, better knurling, a lower low, better spacing of light levels and of course it's brighter with a better beam.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies thus far. The Quark 123-2 looks pretty awesome. Couple questions though. You are saying that the Quark is brighter than the P3D. The P3D is rated at 220 lumens and the Quark is at 190. Is this a difference of otf lumens compared to lumens at the emitter? Or what makes the Quark brighter.

Also, is there any type of red filter available for the Quark? Anything that would fit that's made for a different light perhaps?

Thanks!

Fenix D series (hence P3D) red diffuser.

D series bezel: .8 inches
Quark 2x123 bezel: .86

I would take a gander that it would work, but someone might have to verify.

.06 inches doesn't seem like a whole lot
