LS seems to be indestructable

Help Support Candle Power:

Thanks for all the input guys.

I've decided its no fun trying to fry these things.

Fortunately (for the luxeons) the temptation to go completely ballistic and feed ever increasing voltages was quickly dampened by the fact that they don't get any brighter after 4.5 volts and 600ma.

Ahh well .... wait for the HD or the 5 watter.

One luxeon (even overdriven) is just not bright enough for a primary dive light. It might serve ok as a backup light.
It looks like multi-luxeons is the way to go.
or .....
I've just been told by my supplier that I
can get the new 5 watters on a 6 week lead time. They cost me $39(AUD) a pop for the
optics version, and I have a moq of 5 units.

I need a bank loan

I have an old pistol grip spotlight type dive torch. It eats 12 D cells an hour. Gives
plenty of bright yellow light from its standard incandecent globe.
I've checked out the dimensions and power
requirements of the luxeon ring, and I
might just be able to pull this off!

I need a bigger bank loan than I thought!

Ed, i am deeply offended that you would waste ls' like that =) I would be more than willing to take them off of your hands. in fact, anyone that wants to send me someting (excluding bombs and nasty letters) may e-mail me at [email protected] and ask for my adress!

I just started luxeon overdrive test number 3....

One white luxeon, One huge heat sink,
heaps of thermal grease, and a power supply.
My multimeter is reading 6 Volts with a 850-900ma draw.

As I write this it has been on for
10 minutes and is starting to smell or is that the thermal grease

Its hot ... really really hot!
Even the heat sink is getting hot at
the back and its a 1 inch thick aluminium block!
Will I keep up this abuse??
You bet I will!! I'm going to leave this on
all day - or until it blows up or melts.
Cruel isn't it?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">well did you finish it off?
let us know what it took to let the smoke out.
i found that at about 900ma the tint shifts.i take that as my warning to back off!
not killed one yet.
but i work with parts that will die if you even mention static discharge so i may be too carefull with the ls.
