And now, fellow CPF`ers, a secret I can no longer keep:

I ordered the last four royal blue Arc LS`s. Apparently, however, Peter really only had three of them...SO...

Peter had one final royal blue Arc LS made for me as a hybrid LS. One, and only one, hybrid royal blue Arc LS!

It should arrive in a day or two. In the meantime, I`m waiting with bated breath. BOY...I can hardly wait to see it, and for darkness to then come so I can really try it out.

I`ll let you know how it all works out.

Edited PS: Peter just told me that the hybrid LS on its way to me is a "regular" blue and not a royal blue. (It was taken from his Lumiled demo kit...the last blue LED that he had.) I`m still "all a tingle", though, and can hardly wait to get it!

you shouldn't have said that. Now everyone is going to beg Peter to make just one more, when deep down inside we know that Peter can't be slowing down LS production to make Royal Blue hybrids for all of us

I am impressed once again with Arc flashlight though and the fact that he would have one made rather than just saying you could only have 3 of the 4.
 
TAD got them but sold out. I placed an order and received an e-mail shortly after. Again, missed the boat. What other retailers did you distribute to? The ledlight site's prices are not nearly as competitive as the TAD CPF Special.
 
I just got my blue (royal blue?) hybrid Arc LS1 today, along with three other first-run blue Arc LS1 kits.

The hybrid has a much deeper and richer blue color to it, and appears to actually be a royal blue LED despite the information Peter earlier gave to me (that it was simply a "regular" blue).

In any event, the hybrid is really nice. It has a nicely centered beam, and seems to be at least 10-15% brighter than another royal blue LS1 that I have...or the other regular blue LS1`s just received.

One new feature that will take some getting use to, though, is the shallower seating of the power pack on the hybrid LS. On the older or regular LS1`s, you have to turn the power pack about two revolutions to get it fully seated, and about another 1/4 turn to then turn the flashlight on.

On the hybrid LS1, though, the power pack does not seat as deeply. This is because of the new raised "button" now being used for the positive contact in the LED head. With the hybrid, you rotate the power pack just one revolution to seat the power pack, and when you then turn the head another 1/4 of a turn, the flashlight goes on.

I find the older and deeper seating to be a little more comfortable, being afraid that when I turn off the hybrid LS I may accidentally twist it too far and totally unscrew the power pack.

Notwithstanding this minor concern, I like the flashlight a lot. I`ll just have to get used to the new twist limitations...or else just put the tail switch on when I receive one from Peter.

Cd, thanks for giving me a call today on this. Yes, there are so many details of this revision change, I completely forgot to mention anything about the thread length.

We adding a reinforced gold button to the rev2 board to increase wear resistance and to work with flat topped cells (rechargeables for example). The extra height of the gold button when combined with the rev1 thread placement consumes some of our thread surplus. The rev2 housing and packs compensate for this but on the rev1 head, there are fewer turns to the "on" position. It does work though and the o-ring is concealed in both the on and off posistions. Using the tailswitch pack or the rev2 head (hybrid is still rev1 head remember) adds more length to compensate for the gold button.

These gold buttons are not cheap. We had them specially made by a company out east. Their wear resistance is excellent and a definate improvement from the original gold pad. They also come in handy when I use my 2, 1/2A NiMH or 1, A LiIon packs.

Peter.....what is the weak point with the original gold pad. Also, what happens when or if it wears out? Is this gold pad easily replacable by Arc?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Got a couple of questions, first can you give us an idea of the runtime of the rev2 with those 1/2A cells and their mAh rating? Also, how are you dealing with overdischarge when using the LiIon, isn't the 1.5v cutoff of the new regulator lower than the battery should reach. Does the "moon-mode" kick in while it is still at a good voltage letting you know it is time to take it out?
 
Not sure if PG will see this... but here goes... I placed an order last week for one of the LS1 hybirds that became available from theledlight.com. However, my question is, how can i distinguish if the LS i received is infact a LS1 Hybird?

I was comparing the beam to my very first arc LS first #225 and the beam of the "alleged" LS1 Hybird #l337 (hehe, leet) is actually more of a yellow tint than #225. Maybe i'm just noticing how widely varied each luxeon is from another. :/

On another note... I also received the experimental new cr123 tailswitch. I tried it on both my LS's and found that with the older LS it really requires that tailswitch to really be screwed in tight, before there's any light to be had. But, there is not an issue with the newer, i'm assuming LS1 hybirds.

I'll definitely continue to test out the new tailswitch, perhaps swap my edc LS to the new LS I've recived that compliments the tailswitch better.

They LS1s have a gold contact (completely flat)inside the head and the hybrids have a gold button.
Because of this the power packs will have to be screwed down farther on the LS1s than on the hybrids.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I just got my hybrid and while the contact on my original still looks brand new, the pad on the hybrid shows considerable scratching after just one battery insertion/removal.
Very unexpected and a little disconcerting.

Also.... the hybrid I just got from TAD Gear has two foam rings in it. They're not quite concentric so I can see the one beneath the other.
Is this normal?
Should I remove one?
 
I just got my hybrid second - dimmer then the LS first I got 2 months ago (both using 2 NiMH cells). Also has a greenish beam but less so then a SLS I got 5 months ago. Well, you get what you pay for!
 
I'd have to agree with dark star, I'm not exactly as blown away with the LS-1 Hybird as I was when I recived my LS-First. And even now, when comparing the two side by side... My old LS first has a "bluer" tint (No distinguishable green corona at all) and more tightly focused beam. While the Hybird LS-1 does have a wider, more even beam pattern, it does exhibit some of that "greeness."

On another note, I just tested the hybird with the 2AA, and 1AA battery backs and found that... The battery still rattles when using the 2AA pack, and the light flickers (almost as if it was struggling to stay lit) when using the 1AA batter pack. Is this normal? My LS-first has none of these such problems even after continual use as my edc.

In concordance with GJW, my hybird also has two foam rings... I guess i'll wait and see what Peter has to say about it.
