LS1 two piece head removable?

I have a first run LS1 with the two piece head. Can the head be unscrewed to change out an led or optic? Is it easy to do this? I would like to change out the optic, first, then later maybe install a different bion led.

yep
if your LS1's head really is a two piece head, you can easily change the optic or the led. That is the easy part. THe hard part is as usual, if you change the led to HD, it will be HELL to center. Also, always make sure you connect the led properly, + to +, - to -, and make sure every solder joint is good, so you would not ended up burning your circuit. I think arc LS circuit behave like BB, cannot stand open circuit, so always make sure you got a load on the circuit.

shiftd, it's voltage regulated, unlike newer LSL's and LSH's. The head does not yield to finger pressure, and I will need to apply more unscresing presure. Anyone done this?

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one word answer.

To open my Arc LS Hybrid head (LS1 head with LS2 guts that had sucked up about a teaspoon of water)) I had to heat the head (Gently! Gently!) to soften the gunk used to lock the two parts together. Most should be locked in place with red Loctite, some with some sort of silver epoxy (mine was silver).

Once you get the head joint warm (I used a top burner on an electric range on 'very low' and kept turning the head to get the heat even) it will still take a sizable amount of torque to open it, but it can be done.

DO NOT get the head hot enough to melt the optics or damage the electronics or LED. You want to heat slowly and gently.

Thanks, Thomas. No totally sure I am going to do this. I was thinking about trying out one of EK's low profile fraen optics in the LS1. I do like the LS1 with the 1 AA tube, and right now am running it against an mmm with MM+ sandwich with Q3L. Been three plus hours and both going strong.
