LumaRay just sent me a flashlight that was quite unexpected!
The story goes like this. He posts pictures of his light molded in a clear orange color that is stunningly beautiful. I post saying that I thought it was fantastic and would he do a special CPF run, he says no it is too expensive and it leaks light to boot. Hummm, too bad I say, how about selling me one of the prototypes? In an email I get this response, “I will not sell you one but I will give you one, the only extra one there is. WOW, thanks, I did not know what to say. Well, no, wait, I do know what to say, “na na na na na, I have the only clear orange FL12RX in CPF” ;)
I just got the light today and the box is a neat triangular shape with very nice graphics. When I open it, I see the light is much smaller than the pictures made it look. In fact it is a very useful size. At first glance I would say it is almost the size of a Surefire M6, a little skinnier in the handle and head and a tad shorter.
The first time you open the inside of one of these lights you will be amazed at the super cool cam locking device that holds the head on. In go three C-cells. It was nighttime but all the lights were on in my bedroom. I turned it on and Holly Crap this thing is COOL. Not only does it throw a very bright spot that has zero artifacts but also it flashes on power up like a star trek phaser. I am not kidding it has to bee seen to be understood.
I know they are expensive, and they only have 5mm and 3mm LEDs in them, but you would never believe it could be that cool or that bright. I pointed my Cree SPY at the wall and this thing was keeping up with power level 4+. The fact is I have never seen a C-cell (alkaline) flashlight even close to this useful.
It is so much more powerful than I expected that I was stunned. I just purchased a Craftsman 3D Lux I flashlight the other day. So I just went and got the LumaRay and 3D Craftsman and turned them on together side by side. The LumaRay just blows it away. No contest.
