Does anyone know if Luxeons are hermetrically sealed? What I am thinking about here is operating them immersed in a liquid coolant.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You are correct that it is a non-conductor but that is not my concern. My concern is that liquid intrusion would adversely affect the die or phosphor.

Luxeons internally have a fluid between the junction and the lens. This is specifically for thermal reasons, and to prevent thermal damage to the lens. So I am pretty certain that they are sealed. However I have no idea as to the solvent compatibility of the device, and many cooling fluids are also reasonable solvents. As a final issue, a cooling fluid will change the optical characteristics of the lens, and you would need to design optics to take this into account.
