In a handbasket
I located the new Gander Mountain store here and went in there today looking for flashlights.

I found the Black Ice series of flashlights including two 1-watt Luxeon versions for $60-70, and they also carried another brand of 1-watt Lux (Guardian, methinks) for $39.95.
The Guardian used a side-emitter Luxeon, while the Black Ice units were all top-emitters. The Black Ice units on the endcap display had demo units which could be turned on, but the Guardians (the ones I wanted to see) didn't have a demo unit - they were encased in that heavy-duty blister packaging, so it wasn't possible to open one without destroying the packaging. Dang. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Your post just got me to go check it out. It is a side emitter, rechargeable (nicad) Guide series. I cant find any info on it online yet. Sale ends tonight though at my Gander mountain, it will be $60 tomorrow.

They had both the dry-cell version (regular price $39.95) and the rechargeable version (on sale for $39.95, regular price $59.95). I think I'll wait for the regular one to go on sale, as I'm not a big fan of rechargeables.
