I sold my M4 because I bought an M6; I felt the M4 was just a stepping stone to the M6. The M4 has a beautiful, strong beam but it was too long with 4 cells in series (it would not fit in my pocket) it was a shade longer than a 2C Maglite.

I will be trying to decide how to use the M6 with Li-Ion cells since I don't want to be feeding it primaries. I like that I can use 2 or 3 cells beside each other rather than end-to-end. I just have to decide on which bulb to use for about an hour of runtime.
 
well, it won't hurt to feed it primaries if you use the MN15, see js's X-LOLA thread

An hour minimum runtime is going to be an issue....umless your willing to compensate output I'm afraid I dunno what might do you good, heres what I know of that could work [I know because I've tried them on my M6


  • Surefire MN15 on 6xCR123As [using the stock MB20 holder] as described it in js's thread above.
    • MN15 draws about 1.15 amps, very very light load for 2 parallel sets of 3 CR123As, I've used it as a hurricane light of sorts and it works flawlessly. Note that the 2.5 hours was a calculated guess, I ran mine only to about 2 hours [already incredible] before I noticed the reduction in output
  • Lumen factory HO-M6R on 3x17670s [holder found here] will give you at least 40 minutes of runtime
    • cost: lamp: $25, cells(3) $33, FM holder: $42, charger[DSD]: $12 = $112 before tax and shipping.
    • LF-HO-M6R draws 2.1 amps, AW protected 17670s IIRC have 1600mah of capacity.
  • WA1185 on 3x17670s, very impressive but a bit rough on 17670s plus it dims around 20 minutes [I think my 17670s just about had it]
Now for some options I have NOT tried:candle:

  • MN20 lamp on 2x18650 LiCo02 cells [holder info available here]
  • M3T lamps: MN15, MN16, LF HO-M3T or LF-EO-M3T on 2x18650 LiCo02 cells [holder info available here]
  • MN21 driven by two 18650 sized Emoli cells
  • MN21 driven my two AW "C" Li-ions, requires a body extender and sleeve
  • WA1111 lamp on 2x18650s [AW cells: 7.4V,2200mah total], drawing 3.6 amps
    • requires the FM bi-pin to MN adapter [info here]
  • WA1111 lamp on 2s2p 4x14670s [Chodes holder info here] [AW cells: 7.4V 2200mah total], considered an alternative if your charger cannot fit 18650s as these should charge in DSDs [17670 max]
