Hi,

Over there in the monster "285 Lumen Mag 2C" thread, we're working on pushing this humble little torch up into SF M4 territory. For one of the battery configurations, the body and screwdown butt cap of the Mag 2C is just a hair short. You could go to a 3C but then the light gets significantly longer. Here's the challenge and request:

Would someone be willing to machine us an exact replica of the Mag "C" body butt cap but exactly 8 mm longer. It would have to have the same thread length but the hollowed out area in back would be extended to allow installation of a fourth CR123 and new contact spring.

Please post here if you'd be willing to make a few for a reasonable price.

Your help is appreciated.

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

Great idea, Wilkey. I would fall in line behind you on this one.

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

Bump. Any takers?

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

No fewer than 3 but no more than 6. Target is probably 4: two for me and two for Paul_W. Think you might be able to help us out?

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

I may, but my schedule is pretty full at the moment, what with the Firefly and other stuff I'm doing. It will take a little while for me to do these. If you can wait a bit, I can help you. Please email me at the email address in my profile to work out these details .

Yes, two is what I would want. Thanks for offering to help out.

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

If at all possible, I'd like to piggy back on this deal---just one cap please....

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

I'm working out the details with Doug. Once we get something together I'll post here. I'm not sure how many Doug wants to make and for sure, it's going to be a few weeks (due to the Firefly build) so there is time to mull it over. In any case, it's likely to be a specialty product with not much utility outside of this particular mod.

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

I'm very patient. DSpeck machined stuff is worth waiting for!

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

Ok,

I've been hammering out the details with Doug and Paul. Here's what we're thinking.

1. Extended 15mm longer than the stock buttcap. Still overall 35mm shorter than going to the 3C body
2. Inside bore 17.46mm versus 20.5mm stock to snug up the last CR123
3. Flush fit to the Mag body
4. HA3 natural finish
5. O-ring groove
6. Knurling

The cost is $20 for no finish and $24 for HA3. Shipping and handling is $4.

Wilkey

Edited to include knurling at no extra charge and final inside bore

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

So far,

The count for this extremely limited run item stands at:

Paul_W - 1
Ginseng - 1
Elnath - 1
brightnorm - 2

Payment will likely be direct to DSpeck.

Thanks,
Wilkey

PS. I'm excited!

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

I think we'll cut it off here, though. I don't really want to do these as a major offering - I found out with the first UBH run that production-line work isn't my favourite thing to do... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon6.gif

For those on the list, please send payment to me via Paypal.

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

Thanks Doug!

And so, there it is. This limited production run is closed.

$24 + $4 s/h for HA3 finish
$20 + $4 s/h for bare aluminum

Wilkey

See my post of 5/21, above, for the final specifications

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

Oops, guess I missed out on this (not sure I'd have wanted anyway). Will there still be space for the spare lamp in the cap? That's one of the nicer features of Mags.

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

No space for an extra lamp -- just enough for a small compression spring.

Re: Machining Assistance Needed for Custom Butt Ca

Paypal sent for one cap in bare aluminum. Thanks for doing this for us, Doug.

Paypal sent for 2 in HA. Thanks Doug, and all others involved
