Yeah, I probably get too serious about this, but every year we lose people in the Oregon woods who lose their way.

Were I in their shoes I'd want a GPS receiver that lasts a week on one set of batteries!
The inretech philosophy makes sense to me for single luxeons, but anyone who buys a Helios I would think is looking for just plain BRIGHT to heck with the battery life. I'm not so sure about the Trilight, it's in the middle, but still, a LEDcorp bulb is pretty bright, and ideal for those weeks of runtime. <chuckle> I guess the Trilight is more reliable, though, since one or two LEDs could fail and you'd still have light.
Ideal, I think, would be continuously adjustable regulated brightness as it would serve any audience -- if they could afford it. Nobody makes that in a D-cell light, though. I assume the new 12-LED 4D lantern in Lifestyle Fascination is not regulated and plus, at most it's probably 1-luxeon bright.
[edit] The light that probably comes closest is the EliteMax. Reg'd, Unreg'd, variable in either mode, and a battery status indicator to boot.
