Ummmm.... What does that make people that spend $300 on things like a VIP? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow!

I'd say patients at a psychiatric hospital /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Usernames such as "MagLite" "Streamlight" "ARC" "Inova" "Pelican" "SureFire" etc are not appropriate unless you officially represent the company.

Please do not continue to discuss this here. If a member wants help finding a new name then a thread could be started in the Cafe.

Thanks

Understood! I didn't know about that. Thanks for the explanation!

He says "he" would be crazy, not you.
Although I can't speak for you.

Since Mag-Lite is their name, try Mag Light.
Their law lizards might object though.

Hey, didn't Donald Trump patent that phrase. Sorry, you have to edit your post

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gifMag light count at my house, 5 mini mags, 1 solitare, 4 3D cells 2 of witch are stuffed with 4C's and 2 2C cell lights with 123 mod and a 4 D light that fell off the bumper of my pick up at 40 mph. light still works but the bezel and head are very bent.

@mag_lite_user: If you want to improve light output on
your mags (using original Mag parts) then try the following:
take a 2C body - replace the original bulb with a 6D bulb
and insert 3 CR123 batts instead of 2 Cs.
Voila - you have the 6D output in a 2C-sized light.
...well some people recommend using a 5-cell bulb to increase
performance even more - but they're just not made for
this type of usage. They'll blow faster where a 6D bulb
will last as if used in the usual 6D-setting.

I also have several M*glites. Not a single one is bone stock. All have Wrightright OR an Acrylite Lense, All D M*gs have an extra C cell (Ie: 4C in a 3D light) and in most cases I have played around to center up the bulbs...

That said, I rarely ever USE them... instead using LED lights for a lot of things, and BRIGHT Surefire G2 or Pelican M6 for incandescent needs.

So as has been stated, M*gs are fine in every way save for output. And that can be addressed.

I just went to my garage, since my wife was gone and the garage does not have a window (That was a mistake when I got the new door.)

From one end to the other I used my 2 cell Mag C and it was good. But then I used my PM6, and must admit that it was no contest. The PM6 not only was much brighter, but also had a wider beam which would be useful and even necessary if clearing a room.

I must admit that LE or Military clearing buildings would be much better off (safer) with the PM6 or similar lights than the Mag.

The mag-star little bulbs are a considerable improvement over the stock bulbs. Why they are an option and not the standard of what they ship tells you something.

I have a 2D mag which is outfitted with 2 3AA to D adaptors from electrolumens and a 6D mag-star bulb. It's really quite nice. I'd like to have a fancier bulb in there and might in the future /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I also have a 3D mag which is destined someday to get a serious mod of somekind. It hosted an EverLED for a while, but now just has a mag-star bulb in it and is actually not bad for throwing under the seat in the car.

Out of the box though, with the standard bulb, I can no longer use a maglight. I've been spoilt completely by these other great machines /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif At the VERY LEAST you'll want the magstar bulbs. Even better would be the 6D to 2D adaptor that I've got. Running regular alkalines it's not all the much brighter than a 3D with magstar, but with good NiMH rechargeables it really shines /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif They deliver more power into the 6D bulb as they have a lower internal resistance.

Surefires are great lights! So are Streamlights and Pelicans and several others.

That said, my MagCharger with 9 AA NiMH cells will run a Welch Allyn 1185 bulb at 800 plus lumens for 40 plus minutes. All for a total of about 140 bucks and they are guilt free minutes, because they are rechargeable. Where is the SureFire that will do that?

I also have a regular 3D set up the same way, and I am about to put a Carley Reflector in it. I have built a low resistance 9 cell replaceable module for that light, total cost, less than 50 bucks, including the batteries, charger, new reflector! Where is that Surefire, Streamlight, etc.?

They are all great lights, BUT, Mags may be the ultimate mod base lights.

Just lurk around here. Eventually someone will put up a magcharger for sale. Great light in stock form.

Question.
I recently got the 1 watt Lexion LED upgrade from:
Luxeon Star LEDs Is Owned & Operated By:

I exchanged the bulbs and the reflectors. The replacement reflector is shallower as the LED waffer is thicker, I suppose due to the chip, than the original plastic cap that held the ? halogen ? original bulb.
Lit quite well. Screwwed the bezel back on, adjusted the beam width, fine. Twisted the cap down to shut the light off.........." POP "....the new reflector cracked! Anyone else have this problem?

The reflector cracked when twisting down the bezel to turn off. Anyone have similar problems?
( OOpps, sorry for the repetiton guys...I wasn't paying attention.)

I just educated some non flashaholics this past weekend. They were the typical average consumer that thought that Mags were the best. And the only reason for it is pure ignorance. They simply weren't aware that better tools were out there. Instead, ever time they used their Mag, they had to bang it against their hand to get it to work, change out the blown bulbs, or swear silently at the dim yellow heavily artifacted beam. But that was what a flashlight was to them.

A flashlight is a tool. Yes, it can be taken to extremes and made into a toy. But as a tool, its an investment of your money that pays off in performance and time savings. I don't know about you, but I can't see in the dark. And a 'day' is composed of quite a bit of darkness. Can you get by with a weak flashlight? Of course. Can you get by with walking 10 miles to your workplace because only a fool would buy a car when you still have functioning legs? Of course. But personally, I value my life and my time more than that. Therefore when I need to see into a dark place, I'd rather not use a crap flashlight. Most people with intelligence when showed a visual demonstration of a good flashlight versus poor one will 'get it'. You don't need to pay $100 for a flashlight. If you shop around, you can still get one for $50 thats 10x better than most maglites.

Makes sense to me...

Has everyone forgotten about the alternative to the Mag...the LumaPro that is sold by www.computergeeks.com ? The rechargeable light is made by Grainger. It uses five cells for almost 6.5-Volts and will also use three D-cells to run with less brightness.

I just checked and Computer Geeks still have that rechargeable light in stock for $37.90...a bargain. And Geeks promotion for a free extra rechargeable battery is still good. Promotion word is still "geekluma".

I have this light and really enjoy using it.
