SO I bought a lightly used 623 from a member last week. Just in case anyone is interested, it will start fires:

Basic supplies: Mag623 with fully charged and rested pack, Nomex gloves, Oakley 20's (Black Ice Iridium lens), garden hose and unsuspecting Circuit City flier

The set up:

The result, less than 5 seconds later: :poof:

Just doing my part to celebrate the 4th

I half expected you to light some fireworks with it... because it will :)
i used my other Mag 623 on the 4th... and the response was "jeez... do you think you can find the fuse with that thing?" untill the other lighters notticed I didn't have a lighter or punk :)
Id usually announce by saying "This is a such and such rocket... and you might want to look away for a second..."

I can't immage what will happend if you turn it on in your bag...:mecry:

At least he'd definitely know that his light got turned on accidentally. No need to worry about drained batteries! :p

Yeah..... That's the type of light where you pull the batteries and carry them seperately from the light, for transportation.

Ok Mag623 Question! I have one en-route....

Now I know they get hot, but will I need a glove as protection like above??? Any other hints???

I will have the hose ready for the first go! Haha

Yikes!

You know the way some people shine a flashlight in their face to "see how bright it is"?....

The glove is just for effect ;). It will get pretty hot after a few minutes, but by the time you can't hold it anymore the battery will be spent.

Kraid - most of these were built by Mad Maxabeam and currently only available 'preowned' or home built.

:popcorn:Might I inquire as to where these can be had?

If you submit another vote for the hosts here http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=114510 Fivemega might start boring the mags and make the battery carrier available again. He just needs enough interest. Of course you need other parts like metal reflector, glass lens, Titanium batteries, socket, Osram 64623 bulb etc but the 12AA host is the starting block.

I hope I got that right. I want to assemble something similar.

Incidentally, I just built one of these in a MagCharger and it rocks:rock:. I had to strip the wrappers on my Energizers but they fit. I'm actually going to try stuffing 3 more cells in there and running a 64458. I also picked up a couple 20w and 50w Osram axial filaments so that should give me a decent runtime assortment.
