hey guys, i've tried to get my light to work and havn't been able to. I loaned it to a kid and when i got it back it wouldn't turn on, i took the batteries out and found they were backwards. Put new ones in and a new bulb and nothing! Any suggestions?

Weird. Maybe the new bulb is bad or the batteries are bad. Did you screw the bulb holder in tight?

yeah i tired the bulbs and batteries from a working 3D mag and no luck... everythings clean, no rust or corrosion so i'm stumped!

Try another new bulb and other new batteries. Be sure the connections are clean.

well i guess it was just the bulb... weird though cause i'm pretty sure the one i just put in it was burnt out last time, oh well sorry for the post! lol... can i make this into an upgrade post along with my others now?

3 of my favourite lights are Mag 2D lights. Change the batteries to Li-ion, change the bulb to a ROP bulb, change the reflector to an aluminium one and the lens for a UCL glass one. I got 3 different ones: 3854-L, 3854-H, 3853-H.

i finally found some stuff on the ROP and it looks like a pretty good set up... i'm thinking since i just ordered the Malkoff with some 2AA to D converters for my 3D mag i want to make my 2D into more of a flood style. How necessary is it to get a aluminum reflector and glass lens with the ROP? it didn't say anything about doing that for the Malkoff...

With the ROP Low (3854-L) you could get away with the plastic reflector, at least for one or two minute bursts. With the ROP High (3854-H) you are going to get the plastic melting in less than a minute. I'd definitely look into getting an aluminium reflector if you want to play with the high bulb.

The low bulb is really good though - about 500 Lumen and a CRI of 100. It has really good colour from 2 Li-ion cells, a great shade of white - nothing like that sickly yellow-orange I used to get from my original 2D bulb with half drained alkaline cells! :green:

Build the ROP with aluminum reflector and glass lens. Use 3854 High. Use 2 18650 AW regulated batteries inside of a rubber tube. You can steal a smaller, weaker spring from a dollar store flashlight and you are set!

I've got a 54-L in two 2C Mags (my fav form factor), but run stock reflectors. I've used it for about 20 minutes straight with no melting problems. The 54-H began to melt a stock reflector after about 20 seconds worth of 2-4 second bursts.
