get a nail slightly smaller around than an led and start surrounding it with hot glue for only a 1/4in. of the nail at the tip and then dip in ice water then add hot glue on the top in any way you want then after its hard remove "crystal" from the nail and place on the led

If anyone does know of a place to purchase a similar device to the Ravn "crystals", please let me know. Several years ago I started building 12V lights for my camper so I could be lit up even when not plugged into AC.

Now of course I use LED's for this, but they are very directional and need to be diffused in some way. The best bet so far has been to modify Christmas light sets: I pull out the bulb from the plasic insert and put a high-intensity LED in there and bend and trim the leads to fit. Then I rewire the string so every three lights are in series. Since you can buy light sets with difused ends, they work pretty well - but not as well as those Ravn crystals!

If you don't mind permanently altering the LED, one way to diffuse an LED is simply scuff up the end of it with fine emery paper. You can re-polish them later if need-be using Brasso.

Another is to use little silicone caps. I think I saw the link on Craig's site....

Ah... here it is:
