Making a red Arc AAA

This may be off topic for this forum since it is hardly a modification, but I am interested in putting together a red Arc AAA so I can use it and preserve night vision. Could anyone give me a recommendation on a good bright red LED I could put in the flashlight and where I could get it? Thanks.

I've never heard of anyone successfully taking the head of an Arc AAA apart.
Your best bet would be to buy one ready made.

You will need to resistor away some volts, depending what colour Arc AAA torch you're modding. The circuit for blue, green or white torches will seriously overdrive a red LED and shorten its life (and that of the torch). I would be inclined to agree with John G though...buy another torch ready made. The LED club keychain torch is available over here for a pound, and would serve that purpose well.
There are lots of companies who do PR mods which would fit into any 2 celled torch.
