I just got a new L1-BK-RD. I think the dual output levels are great, however i think the beam is too much of a spot. I really have this for close up tasks no more than a couple feet so I want to have more flood and more spill. Can I simply replace the optic with a McFlood? Will that make it a more flood beam? Does the McFlood fit right in?

I have a couple of regular L1's that were modded along with a McGizmo SuperMcL1 and all of them will accept the McFlood in place of the NX05 and Fraen Optics. I actually have an L1 HA Red along with another bezel that has an R2H White LED in it that I switch off in a travel pack. I have the Red set up with the McFlood and the White with a Fraen and it makes a killer combo. It doesn't beat out my Super McL1 but much easier to replace if I ever lost it than the Super.

Please excuse the brief off-topic but where did you find your L1-BK-RD? For some reason (like we flashlight enthusiasts need a reason!) I have the urge to get a hold of one of those, but can`t find them anywhere! Being in the UK doesn`t help /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

As far as I`m aware (and you might like to check this first), the diameter of the L1`s head is 1 inch, the same as that of the Executive series. So, for an easy, removable option to widen that beam out for close up work, have a look at the F04 Beamshaper which will smooth and widen it out quite a lot. It makes the end of the light a little bigger too, but is about as easy as can be to fit, and remains removable if you need a bit more throw now and then.

I bought both of my Red L1 ( HA & BK) off the BST forums here at CPF. They are fairly available and watch the boards in the near future because I "think" some L1 Bezel assemblies will be showing up for sale /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
