I’ve shown this MD4 with an Oveready triple shoe-horned into it before but recently after helping another member out with a hard to find M61 (why did I ever sell it? In all serious, I hope they enjoy it and use it well) I got interested in some Malkoff fettling again.
Here’s an MD2 with a quad running an H17Fx. The optics are partially cut off by the heads aperture but it’s still pretty cool. I’ll have to see how it handles the power/heat.
Both drop ins are sleeved for extra mass/heat sinking with modified retaining rings and double gaskets on the original Malkoff lenses. Pretty tidy overall.
The two cell Oveready/MD4 is an absolute dream and proven for long runs on high.

I couldn’t cope with the periphery of the quad lens being cut off (24mm optic in a 22mm aperture). It probably makes little difference but it bugged me.
So… I made another; triples fit perfectly.
After much fettling here’s what I came up with.

The quad went back to its rightful home and the new triple fits nicely in the MD2.

Yep, it’s the same issue with the older MDX heads and VME; ~18mm aperture while the triple optic is 20mm so you lose a bit of the optic.
My OCD can’t deal.

Here’s my SkyLumen 519a 4500k DD triple inside VME. Beam is perfect being that some optic is behind the vme
Did you fit the lens in or is the triple optic pressed against gasket without the lens and exposed?

The 4500K DD makes a nice golden tint.

I’m really liking this light. Not bad for putting together some otherwise unused parts.
Got it set to around 3A high, 65mA low with no memory and the second memory bank set to use the FET channel if I ever feel the need; Full FET, 3A, 65mA with no memory.
The little lanyard improves the slick handling nicely.

The high/low twister is such a great feature. The tri-cap is nice too; I’d like one on the light above but the only one I have lives with a HD18650XT.

Post some details and pics of the set up.

Yeah I’ll post some pics and such when it arrives. I also have the M61N SST20 4000k and I really like it in this MD host
