So what happens when you put a W2.1 into this unique reflector? I thought the narrow beam width was forced due to the large optic, so wouldn't cramping more lumens into the same width beam create more intensity / throw distance? I was surprised to see your W2.1 modded versión only increases lumens, but not intensity/throw.

Does the 2.1 in fact make a wider beam width?

just like a conventional reflector the bigger the led the bigger the hotspot. I have a stock E10 and a E10vn with W2.1 that does double the lumen. The E10vn has a hotspot twice the size double the lumen but the same intensity

Thank you, but that still doesn't explain Vinh's measurement numbers when comparing the two lights and LEDs...


  • Spec 1 E10vn W1 6500K @2s = 560L, 160Kcd, 800m
  • Spec 2 E10vn W2 5400K @2s= 730L, 120Kcd, 692m


Notice the specs from the Skylumen website above, the different LED W1 vs W2 results in different amounts of intensity and throw.

But if you compare the Manker MC13 specs:


  • Spec 1 Stock MC13 W1.1 6500K @2s: 600L, 160Kcd, 800m
  • Spec 3 MC13vn VNX2 W2.1 5400K @2s: 1100L, 160kcd, 800m


Different LED here produces the same throw / intensity, unlike the E10 mentioned previously.

It would stand to reason that by switching from W1 to W2 (without Vinh's boost) in the MC13, that there would be a similar loss of intensity and throw, and add ~200-300 lumens. However due to Vinh's boosting the driver... he gets more than 200-300 lumens, nearly double, and therefore the throw and intensity of the W2 does in fact increase to equal the W1.

I believe it is by coincidence that there is no change in throw/intensity, due to the boost, but without the boost, the LED swap would = less intensity / throw.


You are comparing stock E10 W1 to Boosted E10vn W2.1. We need to compare boosted vs boosted, or stock vs stock. Otherwise the equal intensity/throw is possibly due to the boost on the less throwy W2 pushing it into the W1 intensity / throw equivalent.

Vinh, can you shed some light on this please? Would a MC13vn W1.1 with VNX2 driver boost push 200kcd and 850m throw?

this optic is new so i think we are all trying understand what i can do. I think about 730 lumens is about all he can get out of the W1.1. I dont think the driver vnx2 will get anymore especially since the W2.1 is getting a 1000 lumens. The 1.1 will obviously be less then that
 
As soon as I get caught up I will talk more about these lights in a video. I like them enough to want to make a video on these!
 
MC13 is very handsome indeed. Just don't like that big branding on its head. Cerakote would clear that up though.
 
All MC13vn ordered are fulfilled and shipped. MC13vn order after this post will have a 1-1.5 weeks wait time.

Ahh, waited too long. I have been sitting here trying to figure out what LEDs to go with for the E14vn. I think I'm just going to go with the Nichia 219b in a 4500k variety. I have been looking for a good color rendering LED for my EDC light. I have the LH351D in both the 4000k (90+ CRI) and 5000k (80+ CRI) variety in a copper and separate titanium Sinner Custom builds I did. I like the LEDs, but still searching for the CRI sweet spot.:)

The MC13vn seems good with the W2.

Haha, looks like I waited a little extra too long as the price went up a bit too. I better stop typing and start ordering.:)

I also have a MC13vn with W2.1 with boosted driver on order and will measure it once I receive it. The MC13 is actually a good bit larger than I thought as I was imagining something slightly bigger than a GT Mini. The optic appears identical to the one used in the Acebeam E10 and L17. Though for some reason the hotspot seems just a tiny bit smaller than in the E10 and hotspot is more uniform. Maybe its just the focus is a bit different between the two. The MC13 measures 630 lumens on turbo while E10 measures 562 lumens. I'm not sure how much of it is due to the MC13 using the CULNM1.tg vs E10 using CSLNM1.tg or whether it is just the driver pushing more output in the MC13. Build quality is very high on both the MC13 and E4 III.

With the E4III, the tint (positive DUV) is unfortunately too green for my taste, which is typical for all the LH351D 4000K 90CRI I've seen. I will see what I can do with some minus green filters and maybe swap in some UCL lens if I can find compatible diameter lens. Also I feel that with 18650, it should be able to output much higher but the potential is limited by high resistance due to springs barely pushing on the battery contacts. I guess it was designed to accommodate long cells with built-in USB-C charge.

The included Manker 18350 and 18650 cells measure 1,180mah and 3,063mah. The 1,180mah is higher than 7 out of 8 of the legendary Aspire 18350 and older batch of Vapcell 18350; both of which rewrapped the older, better batch of YDL cells. The YDL cells in the last two years went down hill a bit and measure under 1,100mah. Not sure if I won the cell lottery or if Manker got a really good or improved YDL cell. The 18650 is probably a Samsung 30Q.

I'm very sensitive to green tint so I got rid of it by installing a UCL lens and Lee 249S Quarter Minus Green Filter. Here are my measurements:

DUV dropped a bit with the UCL lens and obviously much more with the LEE filter. Output dropped about 16% with the filter, which is not bad at all and is likely brighter and more efficient than the SST-20 95 CRI. On turbo it dropped closer to 18%. Without the green and a nice neutral tint, it is now a very usable light.

I just got my MC13 and E14 in yesterday and they are indeed a great combo!

I was thinking the MC13 might be nice with your W2.1 boost, but now I'm wondering if something like an SST-20 4000K or LH351D would be really nice in there...... does dedoming work/ have any effect with respect to the optic.

...... does dedoming work/ have any effect with respect to the optic. I think so but only way to find out.
