How about using one of the "Anti-Vandal" switches that are already plated and some are even illuminated? I have seen some up to 3amp, but most are lower. Here's a couple of searches...

There are tons of this style to be found. It might be necessary to "fit it into the stock housing", but it mght just be nicer in the long run.

What the blind following the blind? I thought I was going to follow your build lol... I'm going to head down to Jay Car today and take my 2D Mag and see what I can see there... Maybe they have something thats not listed, and I know an employee there thats a little past full on electronics nut so he may be able to help?

damn coulda swore i responded to this this morning. yea its a standard incan mag but i had an led dropin installed by jayrob. i dont believe it effected the oem switch. im taking it apart tomorrow so i can give you a definitive answer then. thanks buddy

mr.lumen, is your Mag an incandescent or a newer MagLED? I'll try making the button out of aluminum and I'll try tapping the hole in the switch to see if I can pull this off.

thanks for this! now i am figuring out what voltage and amperage of my mag set up uses so i can try to find a switch that will work for it. :)

i cancelled my order and am searching the web currently for something that will work.

Yeh good, went in and too my own Mag and it was too long in the barrel of the switch. The contacts would literally be contacting the other side of the tube... Old mate at Jay Car said that the switch was good for upto 12Volts and 4 amps so thats alright, however another thing that you cant see on the website with the picture is that 'Push on' - and the button sticks out - 'Push off' and the button is flush with the exterior camfer edge.

I did see some switches that would be more applicable on the google hyperlinks by "Old Lumens". Great work there mate!

You need a switch thats not so deep but has the right OD of the barrel so it reduces slop etc.

whats OD? and damn that sucks man. what are we gonna do? we need to find a really short one. so when its says 12volt 4 amp that means it cane be used for less as well not limited to correct? i dont mind it sticking out, not a huge deal but yea that is misleading.

Outside Diameter - symbol is a circle with a diagonal line through it.

The button would suffice however the rating is upto its maximum but just dont like its depth within regards to the mag itself... I'm too buys to day to search online for another piece however something half or 3/4 the depth would be better off as you would be able to use the supplied locking nut for its installation. Also I would like a button with a smooth top, so that the actual button doesnt stick up either in the on or off position.

Anyhow have a look on those hyperlinks if you get a chance, I'll try possibly later on and on ebay also.

got it. dude i cant find shiitaki on the web. the best i find is .86 inches deep 16mm od 2amp 36v dc momentary. i ordered one but its from china so it wont be here for about 20 days. good luck ill continue the search.

i do want click on click off. everything looked right about that switch except its for a 19mm opening the mag switch is about 16.5mm i believe. :-/

OD and depth should be ok. 2A at 24vdc. I would bet it would take higher amps at a lower voltage, such as an emitter like an XM-L with a low vf.
Anyhow, it's a possibility.

ok cool. so i contacted that website which told me to contact their distributors after i got through 3 of them i found one that did not require a bulk buy, well not a huge bulk. 25 bucks, so ill be getting 4 switches in different finishes, he is checking the inventory now and will let me know monday what they have. unfortunately all the ones he carries that are latch on/off are more than an inch deep so they will not work. the 4 im getting are momentary.

basically still looking for a metal latch on/off switch that can fit in a mag D light.

Damn good point. Plus my light runs at 8.4 volts so u don't think it would illuminate it since it says 12 volts.

I haven't looked up the particular switches being tossed around this thread, but I don't think that would be a problem. Typical LED-illuminated switches just use a resistor -- with 7.4v it would be about half-brightness, but still lit up. If it uses an incandescent bulb, it will be even less than half brightness, but the bulb will be easily replaceable, and you can probably find a LED or lower-voltage incandescent replacement.

thanks! i went the non illuminated route since it usually makes the switch deeper and it would be harder to get it gold plated.
