I had no idea there would be a flashaholics BB, so it was really cool to accidently find this one. Been reading the messages for a few weeks now. Some really cool discussions here.
Anyway, has anyone been thinking of using a Micro-Fuel Cell to power their LED flashlights? They are being developed by Manhattan Scientifics.
They...
-Run on methanol
-Have energy densities several times greater than NiMH
-Are being developed for portable applications at present. (cell phones, laptops, camcorders...)
When they do come out, it seems like flashlights would be the perfect application.
I'd like to make a flashlight than I can use when treking so this seems quite intersting.
Check out this article on Manhattan Scientifics.
