Military Veterans?

Who`s all veterans and what was your MOS or job and years aprox?
Myself 6 yrs. US ARMY two tours in Germany
1979 to 1985,,I was a 63T20 Track Vehicle mechanic
No wartime duty but we did lock and load once during the Iranian conflict,Chech border!

Myself, I did 1 year 4 months and 26 days in the US Army. 98G - Electronic Warfare Voice Interceptor, German. Got out on a pregnancy. Then did 13 years as a dependant wife (I hate that term!)

I put in 15+ years (Jan '66 to Jun '81) in the Army. Spent two years in Germany as a Postal Clerk (71F)in an Army Post Office (APO NY 09162). Spent the rest of my tour (Aug '68 - Jun '81)as a Nuclear Powerplant Operator/Health Physics-Process Control Specialist(52L). Spent two tours in the Panama Canal Zone working in the Army's floating nuclear powerplant. Also worked on Army nuclear powerplants at Ft. Belvoir, Va and Ft. Greely Alaska.

Four years (1966-1970) USAF. Two of them in SAC working with "sensors" (airframe mounted cameras and electronics) on B52F, SR71B and the occasional B58 aircraft.

RVN, 1969-70, II Corps, Central Highlands, Phu Cat AB. Night NCOIC in Det 16, 600PS, AAVS, mostly working on sensors on F4C and F100 aircraft, ground cameras, film processors, and running a small official photolab.

I was a "40270" AFSC (MOS).

I only served as a draftee, but had the pleasure of meeting a lot of you on the "REFORGER" exercises being held in the eighties as a logistics E6...

Glad I did, this is where most of my linguistic knowledge comes from...

21 years (1975-1996) U.S. Air Force: Avionics analog/digital computerized test station maintenance, testing, repair, programming of radio systems, weapons systems, flight controls, radar systems, aircraft environmental systems, etc. on "Jolly Green" helicopters, T-33 jets, F-4E "Phantom" jets, F-106 "Delta Dart" jets, F-15A,B,C,D, & E "Eagle" jets, C-130 cargo aircraft, C-141 cargo aircraft...oh and probably a few more here and there on an "as needed basis"!

Bases & Places: Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Alaska, Colorado, Nevada, Michigan, Arizona...(and to quote above..."oh and probably a few more here and there on an "as needed basis"!)

Ex spook (Special Projects & Ops, Comm Intercept)
USN 1951-55. Assigned to a non-existant Gov. Agency in '52, transfered by them to USAF(SAC 8thAF HQ) as a civie for 5 yrs then back to USN until they tried to send me to 'Nam in '62. Civies could quit and live to fight another day. Worked in Telecom and Satcomm til '88.

Ten years USMC 86-96. A-6 Intruder NFO, NFO flight instructor, Collateral duties at different times included: Embarkation O. Logistics O., Classified materials O., Schedules and training O., Curriculum O. Standards O., NATOPS O. In the Corps we didn't have ground Officers to fill those squadron billets they were things you did in your "spare" time. We Lived in: Quantico, VA, Pensacola, FL., Whidby Is., WA., Cherry Point, NC. 6 months in Iwakuni, Japan and back to Pensacola. It was the hardest I ever worked, the greatest bunch of guys I have ever known and the greatest experience of my life other than having kids.

My wife has a different opinion on the subject. She made all but one move without me. She spent many days and nights looking out the window wondering where I was and if the car pulling up was official. We were rarely home so she got to be Mom and Dad, mechanic, house keeper, bill payer, handy wo-man, yard wo-man and general keeper of the faith. Sasha spending 13 years as a dependant was no small feat as those that served know all too well.

IMHO there is no more noble a profession than that of a warrior. I applaud all of you and those that serve or were "dependants".

8 years USAF 30474 Ground Rat
Maintenance, Repair, Troubleshooting and Installation of Ground Radio Communications Equipment. This included Air Traffic Control Systems, Transmitters, Transceivers, Receivers, Multi-Channel Tape Decks, Audio Systems, Secure Comm Systems and the like. Spent most of my time in cental and northern California. A little over a year I was stationed in South Korea (ROK).

Sigman- We were in the same shop but different AFSC's. (Air Force Specialty Codes)
Our main area was ground to air communications.

for me Reforger was all about catching helicopter rides

to the various entry points... (Vlissingen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, etc.)

I was stationed in a location made "suitable"

for VIPs

, so for me it was a revelation... I never knew the army was so decadent...

I'm sure those that had to camp in a wet shelter "somewhere in the middle of nowhere" have different emotions about it.

Six years Army Reserve in a Civil Affairs company (which was upgraded to battalion during my stint)
Apparently, Civil Affairs used to be "Military Government", but such a term offended the natives, so it was changed to a less charged name.

enlisted USMC for two years '68-69. Did the 2nd one in RVN as S&C admin w/3rd MarDiv, Dong Ha. Majored in GI Bill for 4 years after I got out. No regrets!

not a veteran, but, I worked as civilian interpreter for a few months inside the refugee compound at Fort McCoy Sparta, Wisconsin, 1980..16 hours a day (time and a half with over time) and slept in a barracks..what an experience..my father taught riflery in the army..
