I have a mini-maglight (super dim) that I would like to try modding. What's the cheapest mod that I could do to make it comparable to my streamlight stylus pro in brightness?

The Streamlight Stylus Pro produces "up to 24 lumens". The Nite Ize 1 Watt LED Upgrade II produces a claimed 30 lumens and has a MSRP of $10. It just came out and I have not seen one at any stores near here so I don't have any experience with it. The older 1 Watt LED Upgrade produced around 50 lumens and costs around $15.

Nice, I almost threw out the dead mini-mag in my glove compartment :D I can revive it now

I bought this setup awhile back for a spare Mini I had lying around. Its plenty bright enough for normal tasks, and with the 2 Eneloops in it, it will produce over a 2 hour runtime. I carry it in my vehicle as a 3rd backup light. :duh2:

You can do somthing like I did.

Got a AA mini mag that is still in packaging. This upgrade looks like it will make the mini mag useful! Thanks for sharing.

It really is the best Mini upgrade for the money IMO, plus it makes a nice smooth round beam and good side spill with actually quite decent throw for its size.

Interesting, thanks PCC for the link.
Unfortunately shipping to Europe is $28 :(

This is one (the most powerful and expensive one = TLE-5EX) of the two Terralux upgrades currently available. Details are available on the Terralux website. They have another, less bright but with longer runtime, and cheaper option, the TLE-20. It costs about $15 on eBay including worldwide shipping, vs. $26 for the above mentionned TLE-5EX which also includes a tailcap switch (the drop-in alone is $23).

Does anybody know what LED model is used by the two Terralux and the Nite Ize modules?

Since the Terralux drop-ins seem easy to modify by replacing the LED with a better one (including neutral or warm white LEDs), I might go for the cheapest option. The Nite Ize looks more difficult to upgrade, because of this black plastic cap covering the LED legs and solder.
