mini maglight replacement

Hi I've had my minimag for about 10 years now so I thought I would treat myself to a new torch I quite liked the look of the nitecore explorer ea2 As it would fit right into the leatherman dual pouch I have. but after reading a few posts I've been put off a bit I need something around the same size in length as it will be on my belt .I will be using it to search and also for close work like changing a tyre So maybe something like a led lenzer p7 which I have also looked at
Any ideas

Have a look at the Fenix E25. Fenix makes good stuff.

First off you can do way better than a led lenser. I like the Eagletac D25 series alot. The d25a2 is a sweet 2 AA light, great quality, very bright, easy to use and compact. For the money it's tough to beat. Nitecore has some real cool lights as well. Nuetral white will give you a better beam than cool white if the light you pick has nw as a option.

When you say you want something the same size as your Mini Maglight, is it important that the light be at least that big (to help in holding the light in various ways), at least that small (to make carrying the light convenient), or just simply close to that size? Most of your 2xAA lights will be close in size to that, although some might be a bit longer. Depending on your intended use and preferred battery setup, you have a lot of smaller options that put out a lot more light. I like the 2xAA format a lot for general purpose usage, but I think you would be surprised at what you can get these days from a 1xAA, 2xAAA, or even 1XAAA. If you are willing to look at lithium cells like CR123, you can get even more power and size efficiency.

The issue though is that the Mag is a 3/4" light and his holster is already sized for it so anything bigger might not work?

I know as I did this a while ago too and now,many dollars and lights later I am still here!

I had 2 of those 43/7 Mini 2AA lights at first and I could not have been more let down by a light! Total junk from my experience,loose threads,thin body,horrible tint and lousy run times too.

By contrast I have also found the Eagletac D25 version to be as good as the 4/7 was bad for me. You can also get the ET in a clicky cersion which really helped me in the usefulness department.

I also like and carry the Fenix LD22 and LD12 and they are built like little tanks.

I decided to stick to that size and battery format too of the holsters that I already had and the extra battery over a single for the runtime. Bigger cells and shorter lights just gave up too much back then for me.

Now is a different story but this is what the question is Today.

thanks for the replies and advice guys:thumbsup: i have decided to go for the fenix pd35 although i will have to wait till my birthday in march as it costs quite a bit £60. so for now i have ordered a cheap alternative which seems to be the best of the budget torches a ultrafire 502b for £15 all in inc battery ,charger ,and belt holster

If the battery is Li-Ion, I strongly encourage some reading in the flashlight electronics forum as well as the hot cells and close calls subforum.

Hi just swatted up on looking after the batteries phew looks like hard work looking after them .a newborn is less hassle lol !!!the battery it comes with is an ultra fire protected 18650 not to sure about the charger. is there any other battery I can use that's less hassle?
