I was at Academy Sports and Outdoors yesterday looking for new bowling shoes.
Of course I wondered the flashlight isle. I mean what do you really expect?
Right next to the 3x5MM modules were maybe a dozen "NiteIze Super-Bright 1 watt L.E.D. Upgrade".
The module is a bi-pin gadget that looks like a larger version of the Solitaire drop in that was available here on CPF. A disk contains the circuitry.
The disk is about 1/8" thick and I am not able to say what it is made of.
It has reverse polarity protection, and will only light installed correctly.
I don't BELIEVE much more than anything has been done about heatsinking. But perhaps it has a thermal throttle of some sort.
It comes with a replacement reflector.
To a degree it is focusable. Tuned to the best spot I can give it a perhaps 10" spot at 6' from a white wall. No noticeable artifacts show.
Brightness isn't all that great, but is respectable at the very least. There seems to be an ever so slight blue tint, but it is nowhere near objectionable.
It must be noted: The thickness of the disk is such that not a lot of threads are used to hold the head to the body. Acyually not much more than one half turn holds it. I will likely teflon tape the threads or sport tape the body as I use a tailswitch on the host.
It was just under $20 including Uncle Sams share.
Not sure what else I can say about it. I am far from displeased at the purchase.
On a 1-10 scale I'd allow it a 7 I guess.
