What is the result of mixing (e.g. in a home light) several different color bins?
Will a warm white LED + a cood white LED give an intermediate color temperature (natural white)?

More precisely: I have bought several LEDs (Cree XR-E) from LED Lighting Supply. Mainly Q2 5A, but at the bin lottery I got also two 4D and two WG.

From several threads on CPF I understand that 5A gives the best color rendition, but I would also like to use my WGs as they are Q5 hence brighter. To counterbalance the resulting cool white, would using a warm white LED (6A?) do?

How good would the color rendition of a light made of the following five LEDs:
  • Three 5A
  • One WG
  • One 6A

From my experience with RGB leds it is difficult to get complete colour mixing. So most likely, and totally depending on any optics you use, you will get some form of incomplete mixing, with variegated zones between the specific bin colours. Our ability to actually see the difference between the different tones may mitigate this effect. I haven't personally played with mixing colours other than rgb so i'm not sure how substantially different these bins are.
