OK guys!

This LED stuff is new to me, I'm a hotwire guy as you all know, but I have too many MiniMags lying around, including two brand new pewters.

I want the brightest possible lux3 drop in for each, with run time of 2 hours or so on rechargeable NiMH AA's, using whatever reflector is best, I don't particularly like optics.

If that isn't possible, then I want the same running on 2 Lithiums AA's.

Help!!!

Thanks guys!

Bill

nimhs will work best because they can handle the greater current.(I think)
you probably want a nexgen 750 sandwich with an ims 17mm reflector.
My $0.02

i think one of the Badboys might do the trick.
the Badboy was (i think!) created with rechargeables in mind. when it drops out of regulation (~1.6v), it is time to recharge. this tends to protect the rechargeable bats.

there are several flavors of BB...the BB400's that i have (with lux III) run 2.5 to 3 hours before dropping out of regulation on energizer 2100mah bats (they werent even conditioned).

not sure, but i would think that a BB500 with energizer 2500mah bats would go 2 hours...and be crazy-bright.

the SO17XA is a great reflector, by the way. very bright spot, with very bright and useful spill.

go under "drop in sandwiches" and decide which sammy you want.
like this one:
"Badboy 500mA Sandwich Module Kit w/Lux3TX1J *FF2-Compatible" scroll down and add "Kroll Tailcap Switch" to your cart.

I am not sure where to get the nextgen 750, you may need to contace Wayne for a custom build.

then, in the upper left corner, click on "mod shoppe".
click on "opticalware", and scroll down to "17mm IMS Reflector-New Style", then down to "17.0mm/2mm Flat Mineral Glass".

Do you want to purchase all the sammies part and put them together yourself or have the shop do a professional job for you?

Here's the shopping list.
1. NextGen blank Converter Board
2. 0.12Ohms & 0.15Ohms resistors for 750mA
3. Connector and Bare Emitter Board
4. Optics O-Ring & Sandwich Retaining O-Ring
5. 17mm IMS Reflector
6. 17mm Mineral glass

Modded part.
1. Cutdown stock MiniMag reflector (instead of IMS17 reflector)

then buy a shop bk. just order the parts you want(converter board, emmiter board, luxeon)whatever else you want, and the bk(foun in the drop in sandwich section).

I am pretty sure that you won't get 2 hours out of a NG750 or larger, I've been planning a mod of one of my 2xAA lights, and mutiple people have said that I can only expect a little over 1 hour out of 2xAA 2400mAh. So if you want 2 hours, I would say go with a NG500. I have also had people tell me that with the 17mm reflector, that brightess gains above 500mA aren't enough at the expense of battery life.

Although the mod I am working with will include a 20mm reflector, so I am planning on 750mA or 917mA.
