red_robby said:well, i don't think the LS is actually getting 800mAh , it does get a little warm(i have 2 of the MM+Q3 in mags).i run all my MM's on 2200mAh Nimh(i have 6 of them+one on the way), i have yet to have a problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

According to what Wayne Y. has said, the Madmax+ circuit including the Q3 Luxeon will draw just about 900mA-running on two NiMH. The draw on two fresh alkalines will be slightly higher-but not for very long. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
As much as I can deduce from what Wayne has said in the past, I figure the Q3 LED itself is getting right around 650mA shoved into it (on average) from the discharging on two NiMHs.
My own experience has been similar to red..robby's--the light running on two cells never does really get hot--only noticeably warm...
Bottom line...I'm (guessing) that what I label the full brightness hours of the Luxeon will be reduced to about 1000-2K hours, at which it's brightness will be at about 75% of what it was when it was brand new.
Not to worry: -by the time 1000 actual hours on the Luxeon has elapsed, most of us will have moved on to better and brighter things.. -if we're still breathing by then, that is.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
