Wayne indicated somewhere that with nimh batts the MM+ will draw less mah, is there a formula or some way of knowing what the MM+ will draw using nimh's?? thanks for your time. Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

red robby, do you think the MM+ Q3 runs at 800ish mah on nimh's? Also, do you think I should fear running the MM+ Q3 continuously because of heat? I have it in a Minimag host. thanks for your help. I guess I just don't want to ruin it. Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

well, i don't think the LS is actually getting 800mAh , it does get a little warm(i have 2 of the MM+Q3 in mags).
i run all my MM's on 2200mAh Nimh(i have 6 of them+one on the way), i have yet to have a problem /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

doug, I believe the MM+ will only run its lux at 800 mA when you use 2 FRESH AA alkaline. Nimh has lower voltages and hence the current delivered to the lux should not be as high. how much to be exact, dunno /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

thanks shiftd, I guess what I am wanting to know is, if I let the light on for say an hour or until the batts go low, will I suffer a luxeon meltdown? Been reading about folks worrying about cooking their luxeons and I don't want to ruin mine right away!!!! My thinking and red robby seems to confirm this, is that I can run her indefinately on nimh's and not overheat or cook the led. I guess all I can do is give it a whirl! I guess I'm just not ready to lose the MM+, I really love it! Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

According to what Wayne Y. has said, the Madmax+ circuit including the Q3 Luxeon will draw just about 900mA-running on two NiMH. The draw on two fresh alkalines will be slightly higher-but not for very long. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

As much as I can deduce from what Wayne has said in the past, I figure the Q3 LED itself is getting right around 650mA shoved into it (on average) from the discharging on two NiMHs.

My own experience has been similar to red..robby's--the light running on two cells never does really get hot--only noticeably warm...

Bottom line...I'm (guessing) that what I label the full brightness hours of the Luxeon will be reduced to about 1000-2K hours, at which it's brightness will be at about 75% of what it was when it was brand new.

Not to worry: -by the time 1000 actual hours on the Luxeon has elapsed, most of us will have moved on to better and brighter things.. -if we're still breathing by then, that is.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Thanks Doug!!!! I'm gonna quit frettin about it and just use the darn thing like I wanna /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

that's the spirit dtsoll, you know, if the LS dies you'll have to put a better one on, and it will be whiter, and brighter, and it will make you all warm and fuzzy inside /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Okay red robby, if my LS dies I will just have to replace it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif My next question is: Can I hire, I say hire, you to do it for me? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif I'm not sure I can get it done!!! Doug /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

when it dies, we'll talk /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
