I did my first incan mod - simply put a Radio Shack 5 cell bulb in my 2C with 3 CR123 batteries. It's really nice and bright. But I want to go brighter - are there WA bulbs that I can put in there with the 3 CR123s? I can get an aluminum reflector and a UCL lense but I'm not sure about the bulb. I like the size of the 2C so I'd like to stick with it.

Thanks.

well for one, i've been told you can cram 4x123 in there by replacing the rear spring with a smaller one that fits inside the well in the cap (but you have to remove the anodizing where the sprind needs to make contact).

A Carley 809 works really well. I keep that configuration in my glove compartment.

You can also use a Carley 808, but that's pushing it. If the 123s are fresh, the chance of the bulb flashing is high.

Paul,

Long time no see! I'll drop you a line and let's catch up.

Thanks - that looks like it will be a good bulb to try.

Do you get the bulb potted somehow or is there a 2-pin adapter?

Shane and Lymph -- You can get Carley lamps from
http://www.carleylamps.com/star.htm
They come with a bipin base, but Carley can pot them for you. There is also a Carley adapter available. I think the number is Carley 912.

Unfortunately there is a minimum purchase, which I think is currently $100. And the way to do the buy is by calling them on the phone. A number of folks have headed group buys. There may be one coming up in the future. Alternatively, you could ask for a potted Carley 809 in the B/S/T forum.

You might have fun searching through the archives for "Carley" or "Carley 808".

A guy who knows a lot more about Carleys is Ginseng, who has run a number of group buys. I don't want to be volunteering him here, but I hope he will feel inclined to give us a few words and correct any of my mis-statements. He may even have additional suggestions for bulbs that will run well on four CR123s.

Wilkey -- Good to hear from you. I trust all is well with you. Yes, it would be great to hear what you think of your "new environment."

I think the CA809 is the brightest bulb for the 4x123 setup. The CA808 is touchy as Paul states. It will run reasonably well on a CA912 PR adapter but I don't think I'd dun it for long. Better to get one potted. GB's just aren't as easy as they once were. And they seem to take a lot longer. The landscape has changed in that respect.

Paul, you must be running that long tailcap with the CA809 in a 2C, right? You must have figured out a way to finish the alum then?

Thanks so much for the info. I'll keep my eye out for a group buy or one on B/S/T.

Lymph -- good luck and have fun with your hotwires.

Wilkey -- PM on its way to you.
