In anticipation for the blackfriday and the sales that lowes has, I was thinking about picking up a few Rebel Magleds. Now how modable are these? Can you saw the switch assembly and cutoff the reflector tail and then pop in an LED on a heatsink from DHS for example?

If I understand correctly, some of the internals of this mag is different. Like the reflector is designed for more throw. But at $14.97 for a rebel Mag, its quite a deal. And I could use the rebels for some other random lighting project in the future...

You can mod a rebel maglite like you would any maglite. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that the rebel reflectors are deeper than the regular reflectors. Current heatsinks won't work unless you sand down the lip that prevents them from going deeper into the battery tube.

I understand the regular minimags are easier to mod. They are also shorter and cheaper.

Sorry I guess I didn't specify, but I was talking about the D maglites.

The outside of the Mag should be exactly the same right?

Thanks.
