after a recent camping trip with my tikka 2 xp, I've decided it needs a boost. The output is too low and the color temperature of the light made everything dead and 2D. So i am going to try to mod it with an emitter swap. It currently has a ssc p4 behind an optic w/o a reflector.

What would work best an xml or a xp-g for a sscp4 optic?

Also, has anyone tried the 90+ cri 3000K xp-g yet for outdoor use? I'm debating between that or something in neutral white.

for a P4 optic, your best option is another P4. i'd try to find a P4 with a higher CRI and a better tint. if i couldn't find one and couldn't live with the stock headlamp, i would sell it and buy something else. because modding the xp2 with a cree, any cree, probably isn't going to be worth the amount of effort needed to make it work.

You may have to go with a driver upgrade to get more light.
Measure your curret draw and figure out your led wattage to see if its being driven properly.
