Modify a green laser to output a line rather than dot

Hi All,

Just wondering if there's an easy way to modify a green laser (10mw, http://www.qualitychinagoods.com/10mw-powerful-532nm-true-green-laser-pointer-p-528.html) so that it produces a line rather than a dot.

I'd like to create a signal laser similar to this one: http://www.greatlandlaser.com/How.htm

The signal laser is much more effective (covering a wider area) with a dispersed line.

Affix a short section of glass rod across the path of the beam. In general, the smaller the diameter of the rod, the wider the line.

Look at the Edmund Industrial Optics site they carry line generating optics, as does their over stock site Anchor Optics.

Meridith Instruments also has the line generating optics too. The optics don't produce as nice a line as the scanner does though.

My wife pointed out I have a cheap laser level that I haven't used in years; I may canabilize it and see if there's anything usable.
