Modifying shrinkwrap on Li-Ions?

I'm using LG Chem 2400mAh 18650s and I'm finding that sometimes, the batteries don't make full contact (wired in series) due to the positive contact protruding so little that it is nearly flush with the wrap-around shrinkwrap.

Would it be safe to cut off a portion of the shrinkwrap from just beneath the "corner" where it wraps around to effectively extend the contact?

no... don't modify cell. get a different brand cell or aply dab of solder to board.

don't use a magnet on positive end of battery to bridge gap, possible dead short danger. using magnets to bridge gaps is a bad practice, even on negative ends. usually is a sign of poor craftmanship.

It's probably not safe but back in my RCing days I'd used to take the shrinkwrap off and use my own(putting 2 cells in parallel and such). As long as your keep the positive from touching the body you should be ok.

I did it with protected cells.

Don't take the shrink off. It insulates the negative body.

Just put a dab of solder on the positive terminal.

I've soldered to dozens of them with no problem. Just clean the + end with an exacto knife and then quickly melt the solder on the terminal.
